Jad: Hello girls! Can you tell us a bit about yourselves?

Karolina: Hi, my name is Karolina and I’m from Poland. I’m a student in technical school with logistics profile. I’m 17 years old.

Jad: How did you first start listening to the band you support?

Karolina: I discovered Arch Enemy by accident. I saw a little piece of “My Apocalypse” music video in another video on YouTube. It interested me, so I decided to learn more about them. Firstly I was shocked that a woman can sing like that, but then I liked that. I listened to them before I got into metal music at all!

Jad: Why did you decide to make a fan page dedicated for that band(s)?

Karolina: I saw a lot of fan-pages on Instagram but I didn’t find any from my country [Poland]. I was thinking a lot before I started my own fan-page. I didn’t know how to run one, but I learned quickly. Other fan-page owners helped me a lot by tagging me and doing shout-outs for me. That was really nice.

Jad: Did you see your band(s) live? Did you get to meet any of the members?

Karolina: I didn’t meet any member but I saw them live. Actually, that was my first concert ever. They were playing at one of the biggest festivals in Europe called Pol’And’Rock Festival, formerly Woodstock. That was the best experience in my life. I went crazy when they appeared on stage, I was jumping, headbanging, singing and screaming. I don’t even know where I found so much energy to do this. This was just unreal.

Jad: How does the front-woman of that band inspires you to be a better person?

Karolina: Both front-women of Arch Enemy are vegans and straight edge, meaning they don’t drink any alcohol, smoke or take any drugs. But as you know all of these bad habits are popular and quite normal nowadays. Thanks to Alissa and Angela I decided not to be like the other people, so I went vegan and straight edge. This is kind of a rebellion in the opposite way. I call this “a peaceful rebellion”.

Jad: As a young woman, what rights do you feel that girls and women around the world are still missing?

Karolina: In some countries women still mean nothing. They can’t vote, they need to obey to their men, they can’t even show their faces. I think that a lot of women still miss freedom. A woman should decide if she shows her body or not. This needs to change.

Jad: What other bands do you like to listen to?

Karolina: I really like Sabaton because of the power in their music. I also love Nevermore. A guitarist from Arch Enemy – Jeff Loomis created this band with Warrel Dane (R.I.P), I’m in love with the guitars and lyrics of Nevermore, also Warrel’s voice was so unique and amazing. I like Fit For An Autopsy and Thy Art Is Murder which are deathcore bands, they are really heavy. Sometimes I just need to listen brutal growls. Oh, and I seldom listen to Kamelot.

Jad: What lyrics from a metal song would you think of in the following situations:
If you’re depressed?

Karolina: “One for all, all for one. We are strong, we are one. One for all, all for one. We are one – Nemesis”
Arch Enemy – Nemesis

Jad: If you’re getting bullied?

Karolina: “One day, you’ll pay, you will see”
Arch Enemy – Dreams Of Retribution

Jad: If you’re happy and having a good time?

Karolina: “Her soul could learn to fly one day. Once she found her knight. Waiting for her chosen time. To steal the heart of her knight”
Jeff Loomis – Chosen Time.
This songs makes me happy.

Jad: If you’re late to school or work?

Karolina: “My apocalypse is near, I can feel the end, coming here”
Arch Enemy – My Apocalypse
They would kill me if I’m late to school!

Jad: In your opinion, what is the difference between Metal and Rock and any other music genre? And why are the fans of artists in Metal more dedicated than other fans?

Karolina: Hmm I don’t really know. Maybe because Metal and Rock music mean something more. Metal bands don’t usually sing about parties and girls. They sing about something that can touch you. Personally I love to read the song lyrics and try to understand the meaning. I know metal love ballads which can make you cry. The sound and lyrics of metal bands make this music different and special.
