This interview is part of the Interview with the fans FemMetal did with fans of different female fronted bands in Metal!
|Band||Vixen & Femme Fatale|
|Other Bands||Kix, New Years Day, Doro, Burning Witches|
|P.S. She’s my favorite|
Jad: Hello girls! Can you tell us a bit about yourselves?
Shannon: Hi, I’m Shannon. I’m from the U.S. and I’m a journalist.
Jad: How did you first start listening to the band you support?
Shannon: Well the main bands I support are Femme Fatale and Vixen. I started listening to Vixen when I found out I was going to be going on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise in 2018. And Femme Fatale I started listening to when I found out they were going to be on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise 2019.
Jad: Why did you decide to make a fan page dedicated for that band(s)?
Shannon: When I start listening to a band I kind of become obsessed and then I like to know every detail about them. That’s part of why I became a journalist in the first place. I listen to mostly artists who have a few hits but were never super huge, so I like to use my platform to help promote them by doing photography and posting about what the artists are up to music-wise.
Jad: Did you see your band(s) live? Did you get to meet any of the members?
Shannon: I’ve seen Vixen four times, Femme Fatale twice. I’ve met all of Vixen a bunch of times and I’ve actually grown to be friends with their guitar player Britt Lightning. I’ve met all of Femme Fatale a couple times. When I met all of these women, I was really nervous at first because they’re all of my favorite musicians, but they were all really welcoming and really sweet to me once I actually got the chance to talk to them and get pictures.
Jad: How does the front-woman of that band inspires you to be a better person?
Shannon: Lorraine Lewis fronts both Vixen and Femme Fatale. Lorraine has such power on stage and absolutely kills it every show. She is such a kind, caring human being and she’s so sweet to all of her fans and make sure they always have a great time, and in turn she inspires me and teaches me what a great fandom the metalheads are. She doesn’t think of herself as any different from fans, and life is really about people coming together and Lorraine is able to teach that to all her fans.
Jad: As a young woman, what rights do you feel that girls and women around the world are still missing?
Shannon: In the rock and metal world there is always the lists of “hottest chicks in metal” and “best female guitar player” or singer or whatever, but it is almost never that a woman appears on a “best guitar player” or “best singer in metal” or “best bass player” or “best drummer in metal”. These rock women and metal women are equally as good, if not better than guys in metal. So why don’t they show up on “best” lists rather than “best female” lists.
Jad: What other bands do you like to listen to?
Shannon: Kix, New Years Day, and Doro.
Jad: What lyrics from a metal song would you think of in the following situations:
If you’re depressed?
Shannon: “No one there to hold you, No one hears you screams, You live life up and down now, Your nightmares are your dreams”
Kix – Don’t Close Your Eyes.
Jad: If you’re getting bullied?
Shannon: “They love to have control of you, Back against the wall, In danger of losing it all, Search deep inside, Remember who you are.”
Arch Enemy – War Eternal
Jad: If you’re happy and having a good time?
Shannon: A time to lose your mind (Metal), But all we are keep fighting the fight, A fight for stuff remaining, A fight to get it right, Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, All for metal (Metal)”
Doro – All For Metal
Jad: If you’re late to school or work?
Shannon: “The damage has been done, I’m righting all the wrongs, I’m relentless like you made me”
New Years Day – Malevolence
Jad: What is your favourite new-comer band?
Shannon: All female thrash metal band Burning Witches
Jad: In your opinion, what is the difference between Metal and Rock and any other music genre? And why are the fans of artists in Metal more dedicated than other fans?
Shannon: Metal and rock are different from other genres because metal is a movement of sorts, because many people don’t accept metal. Between all of the sub-genres of metal and rock, there is a song for pretty much every emotion, situation, and religion. No other genre evokes as much feeling, whether it is complete and total aggression or whether it’s a happy, upbeat song, the emotion and mood is so high that so many people can relate to it and there is really a song to please everybody. I feel like the fans are more dedicated because metal is a genre that isn’t really accepted, like I mentioned before, so the fans are all the band has to feed off of.
