Divi “Lilith” Cano, vocalist of Angelwings, wrote on her Facebook:

It’s so hard when you know who you finally are as a person but those around you just don’t understand it.. or they see it as ‘wrong’ …
There are people in my life trying to make me hide who I’ve become..
But I’ve come to realise that it’s important NOT to suppress who you are, especially if you’re not hurting anyone and I believe a woman should be able to use her body in any way she wishes to, especially if she is comfortable and it makes her happy.
The world we live in will always have perverts and people who will be less than ‘nice’ about this subject and unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about it but why let that stop any individual from being themselves? If we all lived in this fear, it would be disastrous.
If the majority of the world can idolise women like; Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera etc when they wear less than nothing, or make outrageous statements and we let that pass (sometimes not immediately 😝 but we generally do) maybe we even call it sexy and ‘empowering as a woman’ so why is it so different when a ‘normal woman’ who’s not famous, any different? And why couldn’t she do the same?
These past couple of years I adapted to my alter ego ‘Lilith’
She’s a demon seductress, an angel in disguise looking for justice, freedom and peace.
I’ve never felt like a ‘sexual person’ one confident in her own skin, or pretty for that matter. I’ve been more often than not, bullied growing up about my body appearance, way of dressing, as well as my personality. It’s been difficult feeling so estranged from people, feeling like an outcast and like the ‘black sheep’
I’ve finally found my ‘happy place’
Through music and starting to write lyrics, I discovered who I’ve always been. Who I’ve always wanted to be.
Sometimes what looks and sounds ‘silly’ to others, is the only thing that makes sense to you personally and there’s nothing wrong with that!
I’ve embraced who I am and those around me will have to accept me for me or ‘walk out the door’ 🚪
I’m not hurting anyone if I show more skin, I’m definitely not hurting anyone by having become more confident in myself and wanting to feel and look sexy! I’ve always been made to feel like I can’t be myself and I’m done with that!
I want to be all I am. You can judge me all you want but I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life and as a person who tends to suffer from depression and anxiety, I will not allow anyone to make me feel ashamed for finally breaking free, for finally being me.
It’s a tired subject, we could all debate this for so long but the bottom line is;
don’t tell people what to do and don’t judge others for doing what makes them happy. It’s hard enough to live your life when you don’t know who you are and you don’t know where you’re going..
I carry a message of equality, of freedom. I will be who I feel I need to be and I will be kind and loving, as my mother has always taught me to be.
But please don’t try and change me.
I am who I am.
I hope this resonates.

Divi/Lilith

The Gibraltarian vocalist faces what many women around the world face today. Since the dawn of humanity, communities have been drawing lines for the way women should dress, speak, and act. Even today in the 21st century, the laws most governments have made to preserve rights of women cannot protect her from the judgment of some narrow-minded uneducated folk.

We encourage every woman around the globe being judged for the way she dresses or acts to speak up just like Divi.

Angelwings and Divi are from a country with less than 40,000 population, and like many Metal bands, suffer from the lack of media coverage. Yet, they have made a great leap in their music, making quality songs that resonate and create a difference! Let us celebrate Divi by listening to these two wonderful Angelwings songs.
