Interview

Hello Renita! It’s a pleasure to chat with you. How are you and your bandmates at Fate Will Come doing?
I am super busy as we are planning the release of our first E.P “Heavy Heart” and  first single “Charger” from the E.P . I am keeping a low profile in Canada  working at home everyday on songs . My band partners are all in the US so they are staying safe also working on new songs for the band every day and getting ready to vote in the upcoming US election, Covid has made me stay at home as much as possible, making music  with “Fate Will Come” keeps me sane and happy)
First, for our readers who are learning about you for the first time, how would you introduce your band, Fate Will Come?
ate Will Come is an original band influenced by the guitar sounds of the 80’s ,The band’s  guitar style is influenced by Zalkk Wylde and Dave Mustaine. Musically, the band injects modern hard rock with metal and other diverse influences to deliver hard, aggressive songs that remain radio accessible.  If you are looking for a fresh take on the great sounds of heavy metal 80’s type music this is for you!
You’ve released 8 singles so far, all in 2020. Are there any plans for an EP or an album to be released any time soon?
Yes!, We will be releasing our first EP “ Heavy Heart” to  Spotify, Apple and  YouTube . Our first single “Charger”  from the album with video  will be out Nov 2020 on YouTube and Spotify with E.P to follow.
You’re from Canada, while your bandmates are from the US. Thirty years ago that would have been really hard or impossible. How did music in general benefit from the technological advancement recently achieved, in your opinion?
We met on a facebook styled musicians site called “Drooble”.If it was not for file sharing  , home studio’s  and the power of the internet and emails  “Fate Will Come”  would not have happened .
In order to get to know you and your band better, how about we play a little game I like to call “In an universe”. I’ll give you a scenario in an alternate universe and you’d have to imagine and react to it.
In a universe where you’re the lead singer of a Jazz band, what would the name of the band be?
Follow your Heart
In a universe where you can travel back and forth in time, what time would you love to visit?
I would love to go to the far future where Star Trek takes place.
In a universe where you can have any superpower of your choice, what would that superpower be?
To have  people in the world coexist peacefully
In a universe where the senses of taste and hearing are mixed up, what would ‘Fate Will Come’’s music taste like?
Chicken wings with Hot Sauce )
If a universe where music does not exist, what form of art would you be doing?
I would be painting
Thank you for playing Renita!
Have you ever been treated in a sexist manner?
Great question. Yes, when I was growing up and in my previous band. My dad was very old fashioned and there was a different set of rules for women In my family. That is part of the reason why I pursued music, I write empowering lyrics and use my voice in both soft and aggressive ways. Being involved in music and creating songs makes me feel strong! It is a sad thing that in the year 2020 women still face sexism at work and in life situations.
How would you face sexism and what advice would you give to younger people who face discrimination of any kind?
I face sexism with my songwriting , that’s where some of my songs come from like “Bitch” and D.N.A  … Sarcasm can be a great tool in songwriting to get your message across. I have a very short fuse to be treated badly!
If you face discrimination ,stand up for yourself, go to someone you can trust to help with the situation, find a creative way to vent it, Music, art,  blogs, Sing aggressive songs!!!
What is your favourite music-related memory that you have?
I have beautiful memories of singing with my grandma . She loved music and was always singing .Music has always been a big part of my life and always will be!
Thank you for the interview Renita! It has been a pleasure. Good luck for yourself and your band in all your future projects.
Thank you for our interview and stay safe!
