We had the chance to interview the wonderful Cveti Stojmenova, vocalist of Melodic Death Metal band, Irony Of Fate. The Swiss band is only a week away (at the time this article is being written) of releasing a new album, entitled ‘Wicked & Divine’. We took the chance to ask Cveti about their upcoming album and many other things. We hope you enjoy this interview!

Interview

Hello Cveti! How are you and the rest of Irony of Fate doing?
Hi Mirk. Thanks for having me. We’re good. It’s just a very weird situation at the moment like for any artist during this pandemic.
Hope things get better soon!
I got to listen to your upcoming album ‘Wicked & Divine’ and damn it’s one powerful album! Congratulations. How would you describe ‘Wicked & Divine’ to our readers?
Thank you!! I’d say we found our sound with this record compared to our debut ‘Pray for Freedom… Prepare for Extinction’ where we have experimented with a lot of styles and on ‘Wicked & Divine’ we figured out what works best for us. I think it’s a very powerful and well produced record and I’m happy to finally share it with the world.
You’re releasing an album early in 2021, the year coming after the famous 2020, during an ongoing pandemic that changed a lot of plans. How were you affected by the pandemic, personally, and as a musician?
The pandemic screwed us over big time! We were supposed to go on tour with Fleshgod Apocalypse and Ex Deo in 2020 but that was postponed to later this year. No one can say for sure if it will happen or not. We had to push back our release of the album and we still can’t play the release show, which sucks!
Also, a lot of things changed in my personal life. I usually travel a lot and go to a loooot of concerts and festivals and that got completely canceled. So I had to adapt to a new lifestyle. It’s wasn’t only bad though, I got to do things that I normally wouldn’t do. For example, I started playing video games haha. Usually I wouldn’t even have time to do this.
Glad you’re liking games for what’s next!
To get our readers more excited to check out your album, and to give your fans a new perspective about it, how about we play one? I will give you a certain scenario and you’d have to pick one song from ‘Wicked & Divine’ that best fits. Ready?
Haha I love this! Ready!
Which song from ‘Wicked & Divine’ would you use to make a friend going through a bad time feel better?
Hypocrite if you wanna blow off some steam.
Which song from ‘Wicked & Divine’ would you use to introduce someone who hasn’t listened to you before to your music?
The In-between or Mayhem.
Which song from ‘Wicked & Divine’ would you use as a theme song for a Netflix series based on your life?
Wicked & Divine
If all songs on ‘Wicked & Divine’ came to life and became humans, which one would be your best friend?
That’s like picking your favorite kid! It’s not fair haha. Some days I like certain songs better than others, it varies from day to day. But maybe I’d say ‘We, the Damned’ cause it’s a troubled kid like me.
If Earth was invaded and overpowered by aliens from a more technologically advanced planet, and it was discovered that the only weakness these aliens have is that their brains melt when exposed to heavy music, which song from ‘Wicked & Divine’ would you use to lead the resistance against the aliens?
I’d say Vengeance but maybe I’m biased because of the music video.
That’s one interesting video, just took a fast look at it.
Thank you for playing, Cveti!
What music did you grow up listening to, and what was the thing that made you choose that you don’t want to just want to consume but also create music, and that your singing style will be growling?
I listened to a lot of different genres when I grew up. Anything from Nu Metal to Power Metal, Death Metal, Symphonic Metal. I listened to more “Metal” music than today actually. Today I’m all about Pop Punk and Post-Hardcore.

I think I secretly always wanted to sing in a band but I never did anything for it. Joining Irony of Fate just kinda happened and it just feels right. It’s simple why I use harsh vocals, my clean singing voice sucks. Well, maybe it’s not that bad but I feel more comfortable using growls and screams and it just sounds more powerful. It’s more fun to run around and scream on stage.
Yes and you do it spectacularly!
Have you ever been treated in a sexist way? How would you face sexism and what advice would you give to young people who face any kind of discrimination?
I haven’t been treated in a sexist way as an artist but as a ‘person’ yes. As a gig-goer? Yes. There’s sexism everywhere. But I think as an ‘artist’ I get respected more.

I’d say just stand up for yourself and don’t take shit from anybody. If you feel uncomfortable, speak up and leave or avoid the situation.
Great advice!
Thank you for the interview Cveti! It was an honor!
Thank you so much, Mirk! I really enjoyed those questions!
