FemMetal Awards 2021 – General Info

FemMetal Awards 2021 will be the fourth edition of FemMetal Awards, an annual event hosted on FemMetal that honours women in Metal and Rock. The event’s first edition was in 2018. Back then, the magazine was only a few months old. For that reason, and because we pay special attention to new and developing talents, we decided the event would only cover new and underground musicians. This year, we decided it is time to get bigger. FemMetal Awards 2021 will cover every female musician in Rock and Metal, new or old, big or underground. However, as we still want to introduce our readers to new bands, we have added three categories specialized for the forthcoming musicians.

The event peaks at the public voting stage which will begin on the 15th and end of the 22nd of December. The winners will be officially announced on the 26th of December.

How are the nominees chosen?

During October and November, we will invite the Metal and Rock music community to draft names of eligible acts and musicians for each category. We believe that the nomination is the most important stage of the event. Moreover, we do not consider mass public voting a proper way to pick the nominees, as it can be affected by how much the artists have a reach over social media. We do, however, allow the public to participate in the event by choosing the winner, adding to the prestige of being nominated. Moreover, we stand by the belief that a nominee is already a winner.

Therefore, the “community members” who will be invited to draft the names of possible nominees will be experts in the music scene such as promoters, journalists, influencers, label executives, former and active musicians. The FemMetal Award Committee is a subgroup community formed of 10 members who are more or less familiar with the work of FemMetal. After the drafting period ends, the Award Committee will vote for the nominees who will be picked from the drafted named. The number of nominees for each award will vary depending on the number of drafted musicians, as follows.

Number of drafted namesNominees to pick
6 – 106
11 – 308
31 – 5010
51 +12

The Voting Process

The public voting will begin on the 15th of December and will last for a week. Votes will be restricted by email addresses (1 vote per email address). The voting page will be protected by reCaptcha V2. The voting will be in the form of a survey, but we will not force voters to vote for every category to avoid misleading curves. To avoid mass voting and harmful competition, we will NOT show live results of the polls and we will only announce the winners AFTER the competition. To ensure the transparency of the voting and counting process, any nominee or member of the drafting community can request a copy of the results. We are aware this decision will most probably decrease the number of votes we are receiving, but we have taken it to avoid the event turning into a “who has a faster internet” competition.

Theme

Like every year, a woman empowerment theme will be applied to the event. This theme dictates the award aliases and the name of the Hall of Fame page. This year’s theme will be Norse Mythology.

Promotion

FemMetal will be responsible for promoting the event through the website and social media. We do, however, appreciate anyone’s sharing of the event information or invitations to vote.

Sponsors

FemMetal Awards is sponsored by advertisements hosted on FemMetal and by our funds. Further sponsorship would help us make the event bigger. Please contact us for any sponsorship proposition.
