The FemMetal Awards are back for their 7th edition, continuing a journey that began in 2018. Over the years, the event has evolved in many ways, yet its core remains unchanged: a commitment to spotlighting new and upcoming talents and celebrating women empowerment in music. Each edition adopts a unique and empowering theme that shapes the event’s identity, adding a distinct flavor to its celebration. This year promises exciting updates, including a fresh theme, notable changes from last year’s edition, and the much-anticipated announcement of nominees across all categories.

The Theme

Over the years, the FemMetal Awards have featured different themes that celebrate amazing ideas and people. From Greek and Egyptian mythology to horror and fantasy characters, women in science, and real-life heroines, each theme has focused on strength and inspiration.

The theme of FemMetal Awards 2024 is

Roman Mythology

This year, we return to a theme similar to the first edition: Roman mythology. Each award category is named after a Roman goddess, celebrating her strength and the qualities that made her admired in ancient times. These goddesses represent the powerful traits that the FemMetal Awards are all about.

Changes for the 2024 Edition

This year, we’ve introduced some exciting changes to the FemMetal Awards to make the event even more inclusive and empowering:

  1. Merged Breakthrough Categories: The “Best Breakthrough Metal Act” and “Best Breakthrough Rock Act” categories have been combined into one. To ensure a broader representation, we’ve increased the number of nominees from 8 to 12.
  2. New Category: Best Release Artwork: A new category that recognizes the talents of designers in creating artwork that represents their music and draws people visually.
  3. New Category: Write-In Breakthrough Act: A new option allows voters to write in and vote for a breakthrough band that wasn’t included among the nominees, giving fans a chance to highlight their personal favorites.
  4. New Category: Woman of the Year Category: This new category lets voters recognize the most influential woman of the year, celebrating achievements in politics, economics, and beyond—not just in music.

These changes aim to provide more space for emerging talents, give voters greater freedom to express their opinions, and spotlight women who have made a significant impact in and outside the world of music.
