Metalwings is a band from Bulgaria who has just released a new album entitled ‘A Whole New Land’. We had the pleasure of interviewing Stela Atanasova, vocalist, keyboard and viola player, to ask her about the new album and other things. Enjoy this interview with Stela Atanasova.
Hello Stela! How are you and the rest of Metalwings doing?
Hello. I feel great, as do the rest of the band. It is already a hot summer here and we all dream of a vacation.

You released a new album, ‘A Whole New Land’, last month. How are you feeling about the reception the album got from the fans so far?
I think that the fans are the biggest corrective for any artist and we managed to surprise them once again with something new and different from our previous albums. We receive a lot of positive comments, reviews, and the feedback from our fans is absolutely positive.
What would you tell our readers who haven’t heard the new album yet to expect if they go check it out right now?
Let them expect the unexpected. This is not just another album created in the style of symphonic metal. This is an epic album where you can hear the whole palette of sound, emotion, passion, anger and tenderness of the times we live in, combined in one album. This album is an epic journey to ourselves – if they hear the album at least a few times and feel its depth, then their journey will be unforgettable. Just give yourself these 67 minutes of pure, emotional, epic and powerful metal on the wings of our dreams.

What is one music-related memory from your childhood that you treasure?
My fondest childhood memory is how my mother taught piano to her students while I played on the floor with toys, but I listen to every single note and admire the music they play.
Have you ever been treated in a sexist way? How would you face sexism and what advice would you give to young people who face any kind of discrimination?
I have not encountered such an attitude. I did not feel discriminated because I’m a woman. I’m probably lucky or I just didn’t let anyone treat me like that. I want women to be more women and not try to be like men in every way. We are definitely the better one and we don’t have to behave like men to be respected. We just need to respect ourselves and not let anyone take away our strength, confidence and dreams.
How did the pandemic influence the writing process and release of your new album?
The pandemic in no way prevented the recording and release of the album. It slowed us down a bit because we had plans to release it earlier, but I don’t think that’s a problem. We just waited for the better year – I mean 2021 – and did things in the best possible way.
