Dimman is a Melodic Death Metal band from Finland, with a sound that radiates a huge potential to become one of the huge names in the Metal scene in the near future. This radiation is clearly exhibited in the band’s debut album that was released on the 30th of July.
‘Songs and Tales of Grievance’ is one of the best albums released in 2021 thus far, and that is something I will talk about soon when I write the review for the album. As for now, we had the pleasure of interviewing Jenna Kohtala, the co-vocalist of the band, and asked her about her band’s music as well as her views on different matters. Here’s our interview with Jenna Kohtala.
Hello Jenna. I’m very happy to chat with you. How are you and the other members of Dimman?
Pretty good, just chillin
You released your debut album ‘Songs and Tales of Grievance’ a couple of months ago. How are you feeling about the reception this album got from the fans and media?
Seems good so far. A lot of people have sent me messages saying they really like it, and that each release keeps getting better and better
If any of our readers haven’t checked your music yet, what would you promise them to experience if they go check ‘Songs and Tales of Grievance’ right now?
You really need to listen and hear for yourself!
In order to get to know you better, and to have some fun, how about we play a game? I will give you a certain scenario in an alternate universe and you will have to react. Ready?
Yes let’s go
In a universe where you’re the ruler of a country, what would be an interesting law you’d make?
That doorbells should be banned
Wow, interesting. In a universe where humans are born with superpowers related to their personalities, what would your superpower be?
Creating lists and plans that never work out, but faster than normal then?
In a universe where all the songs from your debut album came to life and became humans, which song would be your best friend?
Probably The Mist, because we’re both kind of shady
In a universe where the currency is the person’s sense of humor, how rich would you be?
Jeff Bezos
I see that! In a universe where aliens with superior technology have invaded Earth, and it was found that the only way to defeat them is by heavy songs, which Dimman song would you lead the Earth defences with?
Can I pick all of them?
Great answer! In a universe where the senses of taste and hearing are mixed up, what food would Dimman music taste like?
Something that’s sweet and savoury at the same time
Thank you for playing, Jenna!
What is one music-related memory from your childhood that means a lot to you?
Probably all the music classes in high school, and just learning to play songs with friends
Do you remember the first time you performed in front of a live audience? How did it feel?
Yes, a solo part at choir performance when I was maybe 8. Honestly, I was just taking it easy the entire time, way more relaxed than in any show nowadays
Have you ever been treated in a sexist manner? How would you have sexism and what advice would you give to young people who deal with any kind of discrimination?
I don’t recall any specific cases really, maybe at school when I was younger or something. It’s more about indirect attitudes though, not necessarily specific people telling that straight to your face. You need to set boundaries and speak up. Don’t let people walk over you, and don’t suffer in silence. Most people are respectful and reasonable, but when you encounter the bad ones don’t be afraid to call them out or talk to somebody about it.
That’s a brilliant piece of advice. Thank you for the interview, Jenna. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks to yourself, it was fun. To anyone out there reading this have a good day!
