Emelle Elizabeth is the vocalist of the Pennsylvania Metal band, Eternal Frequency. The band emerged into the scene last year with five singles released so far, three of them in 2022, with the latest being an incredible song released last month, “Breathe In, Breathe Out”.
We had the chance to interview Emelle Elizabeth and talk about her band’s music, their future plans, as well as Emelle’s experiences and takes on various things.
Hello, Emelle. I’m really glad we can chat. How are you and the rest of Eternal Frequency doing?
Hey there, Mirk! Hope all is well with you! Thanks for having me, I really appreciate it. All of us in Eternal Frequency are very busy gearing up for lots of shows and new music this late summer/fall!
That’s great news! You’ve recently released a new music video for the song “Breathe In, Breathe Out” with footage from fans telling their life experiences. What was the message you wanted to send from this video, and how do you feel about the way it was received by your fans?
The message we basically wanted to convey with “Breathe In, Breathe Out” is that depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts are REAL and your feelings are completely valid. You are not alone in your struggles and there is always something to live for. Always. Our fans really vibe with it on a personal level. We also commend the ones who were brave enough to share their stories on camera for the whole world to see. We know that isn’t easy and we are blessed to be able to give them a platform to be heard in a sense. Everyone who has heard the song says it’s their new favorite because of the message. It’s real and it’s honest. We just want to help people.
That’s a great initiative from you. If I’m counting right, “Breathe In, Breathe Out” would be your third single in 2022 after “A.I.” and “Step Up”. Are you planning to release an album soon or continue with singles?
We have one or two more singles in our arsenal to be released but yes, we are working on our debut full-length album which is super exciting. We feel it is finally the right time to do something like this because we feel as though we finally have enough heads looking in our direction for an album to make sense. Everything is super strategic.
If you were to describe Eternal Frequency’s sound to someone who has never heard your music before, what would you say?
I’d say we are a good mixture between hard rock/metalcore with a modern twist. It’s hard to put us in any specific box because we write however we are feeling in the moment. Heck, maybe next we will write a Disney-style song. Who knows haha
That would be interesting 😂! In order to get to know you better and from a different point of view, how about playing some imagination game? I will set a scenario in an alternate universe with new rules and see how you’d react to the different situations. Ready?
In a universe where you are made the queen of a country, what would be the first law you’d make?
First law would probably make feminine hygiene products free for everyone in need. That shit is expensive and there are so many women out there that can’t afford these basic necessities that are so important for daily life.
In a universe where humans can choose either to be able to teleport from one place to another or travel back and forth in time, which superpower would you pick?
I like the journey of life so I wouldn’t want to be able to teleport. Now time travel? You’re speaking my language. Someone call Doc Brown and get the Delorean up and running! I’d love to be able to visit the day of silent films and classic Hollywood. It’s always been one of my favorite eras.
In a universe where you’re the statue of liberty, what object would you be holding instead of a torch?
Easy. A burrito from Neato Burrito.
In a universe where money does not exist, but instead, people pay for things by making other people laugh, how rich would you be considered?
I always said if I couldn’t sing I’d probably go into stand-up comedy so I’d be very, very rich haha I’m known to crack a joke or two here and there 😉
In a universe where the senses of taste and hearing are mixed up together, what food would you imagine Eternal Frequency’s music would taste like?
I’m super Italian so I’d say Vodka Sauce lol velvety smooth yet a nice bite at the end lol
In a universe where magic is real, what would your favourite spell do?
Make a duck-sized horse and a horse-sized duck
That would be epic!
Thank you for playing, Emelle! I hope you enjoyed this!
I’ve seen some of your band’s live videos and they are amazing! Do you remember the first time you performed live on a stage at a professional level? What are some of your memories from that moment?
I started performing at a professional level when I started doing regional theater when I was a teenager. 8 shows a week. It was a blast and a full-time gig!
Have you ever faced any kind of sexism in your professional or personal life? How would you deal with sexist behaviour and what advice would you give young people around the world who face any kind of discrimination?
Our song “Step Up” is actually about dealing with sexism in the music scene. How women in rock are more so looked at as items and sex symbols, not musicians. Not all of us “female-fronted bands” are trying to bait listeners with sex, some of us want to make a living doing this with our talents and hard work. I’ve dealt with it a decent amount unfortunately I know it will probably get worse the bigger we get, but it comes with the territory. Be yourself and don’t let anyone try to change who you are. You are the way you are for a reason. Be proud and keep your head held high. The right people will love and respect you for the best reasons.
Thank you for giving us this interview, Emelle. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I would just like to say thank you again for having me! It was a blast and I thoroughly enjoyed the questions you asked 🙂 take care!
