You know an artist has created a masterpiece when they talk about it with passion and love, and that is how Cecilia Petrini talks about her band’s upcoming album. On the 25th of August, the Italian band Sinheresy will release their new album “Event Horizon” through Scarlet Records. We had this delightful chat with Cecilia and asked about her music, the new album, and her life experiences, and received answers that will have you curious and eager to check the new album once it’s released. (I have and it’s great)

Enjoy this trip into the great mind of Cecilia Petrini.

Hello Cecilia! I am very happy to chat with you. How are you and the rest of Sinheresy doing?
Hello and thank you so much for the hospitality! We’re fine, busy with a lot of musical (and not) daily commitments!
You are on the verge of releasing a new album named “Event Horizon” at the end of August. What would you tell your fans to expect to hear when they listen to your new release?
First of all I’d suggest listening to “Event Horizon” at full volume! It’s an energetic and enthralling album, we’ve given our 100%, taking care of every detail in the best possible way, from composition to recordings. Longtime fans can expect to find the hallmarks of our style, such as the harmonies and vocal exchanges between me and Stefano or the duality between the granitic guitars and the ethereal arrangements. But also new listeners may be impressed by the solid yet fresh sound of the new songs.
How are you feeling about the way your fans reacted to the two singles and music videos you have released from your new album?
I’m very happy with the fans’ reaction to our first two singles! With “Castaways” we managed to surprise all, showing our heaviest side right away; while with “The Life You Left Behind” we received many comments remarking the emotion perceived in the song: it’s a big compliment for me.
Wonderful! How would you describe your style of music to someone who never got the chance to listen to your music before?
It’s difficult to describe our musical style in a few words, we don’t really like labels and we never compose our songs, planning which genre to classify them into. However, I would say that the best definition right now is “melodic modern metal” since we often combine very catchy vocal melodies with sharp riffs and groovy vibes.
Let’s play a game! I will set a scenario in an alternate universe with new rules and see how you’d react to the different situations. Ready?

Let’s go!
In a universe where you are a necromancer, which late musician would you ask for advice?
No doubt about this: Freddie Mercury.
In a universe where humans can choose either to be able to teleport from one place to another or travel back and forth in time, which superpower would you pick?
I wish I had them both! The first superpower is very useful, because I’m a very lazy person, ahah! But given the choice, I would travel back and forth in time. Especially to go to see legendary concerts!
In a universe where humans only see in greyscale, what would your favourite colour be?
Probably a light grey colour, with a cool undertone.
In a universe where money does not exist, but instead, people pay for things by making other people laugh, how rich would you be considered?
I really don’t know how much money I could earn in a universe like this, but I’m sure I wouldn’t be rich because I would spend a lot! 😀
😂 In a universe where the senses of taste and hearing are mixed together, what food would you imagine your music would taste like?
All of our songs have their unique atmosphere, so I think they would have different tastes: I imagine the punchier songs to be like salty snacks, while the most delicate songs would be sweet treats.
In a universe that is a post-apocalyptic world flooded by zombies, would you be hiding in a safe house, on the run fighting zombies, or a zombie?
I’m not good at survival games, so I’d probably be bitten by a zombie very soon ahah!
Ouch. In a universe where you were chosen to rule a nation, what is the first law you’d change or make?
I would increase the penalties against those who abandon or mistreat animals and distribute more funds to the associations that take care of them.
Great one! Thank you for playing, Cecilia! I hope you enjoyed this game. Do you remember the first time you performed live on stage? How would you describe your experience?
Yes, I remember our first concert as Sinheresy, it was in a small pub in a city not far from our hometown. We were playing mostly covers at the time, to make ourselves known in the area. We thought we did a great concert, but indeed we were really awkward and inaccurate ahah! Well, I guess it’s a mandatory step to gain experience and confidence with the stage!
Thank you for sharing this experience, it’s really inspiring!
Have you ever experienced any kind of sexism in your professional life? What advice would you give our young readers who might experience any kind of discrimination?
Yes and no. I’ve never suffered blatant episodes of sexism, but still today undoubtedly, the simple fact of being a woman in such an environment puts the spotlight on you. And sometimes this can be really heavy, because you feel almost obligated to prove what you’re worth, in any situation. It’s psychological pressure, sneaky and unfair. The only advice I can give is to work on your own self-confidence and inner balance to not let this pressure crush you or define who you are.

Brilliant advice, thank you.
Back to your upcoming album, will there be a tour or some concerts in Italy or outside to support the release?
Yes, the first concert will be the release show in our hometown Trieste, on Friday 18th August. We’ll play all the songs from “Event Horizon” with a special light design and a performer, who will dance on stage during the most evocative songs. Then we’ll have some dates in Italy this fall/winter, and maybe we’ll come back to Europe in 2024. Of course, the gigs will be focused on the promotion of our new album, but now that we have quite a rich repertoire, we’ll play some older songs as well!
Good luck and thank you for giving us this interview, Cecilia. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you very much for this space, I hope I’ve intrigued the readers to give our new album a listen! But most of all, let’s keep on supporting the metal music scene with passion!

Being a feminist has been normalized as an irregularity through our patriarchal society, so I'd rather be called a "decent human" than a "feminist man". I breathe Metal and Rock and have a screwed-up sense of humour.
