Last month (April 30th, 2024), the LA-based band VALAINA released their debut album, “Save Me From Myself.” Metal fans previously had a taste of VALAINA’s first album when the single “Sleeper (Reimagined)” was released. I haven’t had the chance to listen to the whole album yet, but I can say that “Sleeper” is one of the best songs I’ve heard released this year.

The song begins with a serene introduction, featuring a delicate build-up and vocals that evoke the feel of an opening movie monologue. This sets the stage perfectly for the listener to immerse themselves in the rest of the track. The calm opening soon gives way to an explosive, high-energy section, with the vocals seamlessly adapting to the shift in dynamics. The overall vibe of “Sleeper” is epic and exciting.

One of the band’s strengths on this track is their masterful use of strategic pauses and their skilful alternation of the song in terms of heaviness and tempo, creating an exciting adventurous 4-minute musical journey. “Sleeper (Reimagined)” has left me eager to explore the rest of VALAINA’s debut album.

Being a feminist has been normalized as an irregularity through our patriarchal society, so I'd rather be called a "decent human" than a "feminist man". I breathe Metal and Rock and have a screwed-up sense of humour.
