Read this interview with Eleanora Travaglino, vocalist of Marble, as they prepare to release their new album in November. We talked with Eleanora about the album’s concept, her musical background, and her thoughts on female presence in the Metal scene.
Reuel
Hello Eleanora! I am happy to chat with you. How are you doing?
Eleonora Travaglino
I’m great, thanks for asking! I am working hard together with the guys in the band to promote our new album, T.I.M.E.!
Reuel
Brilliant! You will be releasing your new album T.I.M.E. in November, and it seems like it will be a beautiful concept album. Can you tell us how your background in theatre influenced the storytelling and themes in the songs?
Eleonora Travaglino
The album reprises the concept of a piece that I played a few years ago, it was an anthology of sorts, a voyage through time in the history of theatre.
Reuel
T.I.M.E. focuses on female characters from Western theatre. How did you choose which iconic characters to highlight, and which one was the most fun to explore musically?
Eleonora Travaglino
Well, in the piece that I mentioned there were nine doors, each of them led to a different classic of western theatre, from greek tragedy to modern times. It provided the backbone for our album and we basically dedicated a song to each of those classics. We thought to use the female character’s point of view in the story to give a fresher perspective. And I am personally partial to Lady Macbeth, I had the opportunity to play this character recently and she’s fascinating.
Reuel
Sounds very interesting! How would you describe MARBLE’s music to someone who’s never heard it before?
Eleonora Travaglino
I think melodic metal is the best way to describe it. Our tracks actually space from lighter to heavier sounds, my vocals are clean and maybe un-conventional for the genre but I think that’s what makes it all the more unique
Reuel
As said before, female characters in theatre take centre stage on this album. Which theatrical heroine do you relate to the most and why?
Eleonora Travaglino
In general? Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing. She’s always been my favourite and hope to play her one day
Reuel
You’ve been in the music scene for a while now. Looking back, what would you say was the moment you realised you wanted to be a vocalist?
Eleonora Travaglino
I started singing live with our bassist’s dad’s band, they play rock and blues from the 70s to our days. I had never thought singing could be an option for me: it made me realize I had something to express there too.
Reuel
Women’s participation in metal has grown over the years. What are your thoughts on the role of women in the metal scene today, and how do you see it evolving?
Eleonora Travaglino
I think it follows the way women have been growing in presence and importance in many fields, new doors open for women every day, but it’s up to them to open them and put their signature in their distinctive way.
Reuel
Brilliant! Thank you for your time, Eleanora, and for this interview! Is there anything else you’d like to conclude this interview with?
Eleonora Travaglino
Thank you for your time, I hope you’ll enjoy the new album and the new single, The Sleepless King, coming out on November 8th! Stay metal, always!!
