The world of rock and metal just got its own dedicated streaming platform! ROKK has officially launched, promising high-quality audio, a vast music catalog, and—most importantly—fair compensation for artists.
Founded by Kamelot and Cyhra drummer Alex Landenburg, alongside Mentalist guitarist Peter Moog, ROKK is designed to give musicians a better deal in the streaming world. Unlike mainstream platforms that notoriously pay artists fractions of a cent per stream, ROKK introduces Direct Artist Support, ensuring that bands and musicians actually benefit from their music being played.
What Makes ROKK Different?
In an open letter announcing ROKK’s launch, Alex Landenburg detailed the platform’s mission and unique features:
- Built by Musicians, for Musicians – With firsthand experience of how little artists earn from streaming, Landenburg and Moog created ROKK to change the game.
- Fair Pay for Artists – Subscriptions include a direct contribution to the artists you listen to most, making streaming more sustainable for musicians.
- Massive Music Library – According to Landenburg, ROKK already hosts over 60 million tracks, with 10,000+ new songs added weekly.
- ROKKpedia – A built-in rock and metal encyclopedia where fans can contribute knowledge to refine artist and album details.
Landenburg shared his motivation for creating ROKK, explaining that after spending two decades as a professional drummer, he had witnessed firsthand how little musicians earn from streaming. He emphasized that ROKK is not just another streaming service, but a community-driven project aimed at giving rock and metal the recognition they deserve.
He also acknowledged that ROKK is still in its early days, urging users to be patient with minor growing pains. “If you click on a track and it takes longer to load, you’re likely to be the first listener triggering its playback (transcoding),” he explained, assuring that such delays would only happen once per track.
Landenburg admitted that ROKK launched with a fraction of the capital of mainstream competitors, and while they already have a strong foundation, some gaps in the catalog, missing artwork, or technical glitches may be present. However, he assured fans that improvements are constantly rolling out, and user feedback is welcome to help refine the platform.
Special Launch Offer
To kick things off, ROKK is offering a free trial month, followed by an introductory price of €8.99/month for the first three months (then €10.99/month). This offer is only available if you subscribe via their official website before March 31st.
Currently, ROKK is available in Europe and the UK, with plans to expand worldwide. You can check it out on iOS, Android, and the web at rokk.app.
