The darkwave and post-punk duo Lebanon Hanover return with strength and fidelity to their style with their new single “Torture Rack,” released on June 23 across all digital platforms, accompanied by the official music video directed by London-based artist Tamas Mesmer, known on Instagram as animalmagnetism. Filmed in black and white, the video reinforces the visual aesthetic that fans instantly recognize: decadence and tension encapsulated in imagery.
This release marks the first preview of their highly anticipated album Asylum Lullabies, scheduled for release on July 10 through Fabrika Records, promising to continue exploring the dense and immersive soundscapes that have made the project one of the most influential in the European gothic underground over the past decade.
Formed in 2010 by Swiss vocalist Larissa Iceglass and British musician William Maybelline, Lebanon Hanover has established themselves as a cornerstone of the coldwave revival with their minimalist, tense, and deeply expressive sound. With albums like Why Not Just Be Solo? (2012), Tomb for Two (2013), and the most recent Sci-Fi Sky (2020), they have forged a unique identity that evokes the spirit of bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, and The Cure — but with a colder, more nihilistic, and deeply personal aesthetic.
“Torture Rack” maintains the band’s essence: sharp basslines, ethereal synthesizers, and an unsettling atmosphere, while Iceglass’s vocals convey vulnerability with a restrained, ghostly tone.
The single stands as a haunting introduction to Asylum Lullabies, a work that, according to the band’s social media, tackles themes such as dissociation, the romanticization of interior confinement, mental health, heartbreak, and the terrible situations currently happening in the world.
For their most loyal followers, this new track is also a promise: Lebanon Hanover has not lost their edge, continuing to sound like a cold echo resonating deep within the psyche.
