German project MORTES, one of the most compelling emerging acts in the current darkwave / post-punk / goth scene, returns with a release that will captivate fans of moody, atmospheric sounds. “Scent (Escape You)”, a new single in collaboration with Balduvian Bears, was released on August 22 via darkTunes Music Group and is accompanied by a striking official music video.
Since its inception, MORTES has combined the melancholy of darkwave with the energy of post-punk and the aesthetics of contemporary goth. Their music blends enveloping synthesisers, ethereal guitars, and dramatic vocals. In just over a year, the project has gained attention thanks to the EP “BLOOD” (2024), the debut album “THORNS” (2025), and exploring singles themes like love, death, and the tension between desire and pain, always with a cinematic sensitivity.
In “Scent (Escape You)”, MORTES joins forces with Balduvian Bears to deliver a track full of emotional tension and a sense of pursuit. The song conveys the idea that, no matter how hard we try to escape certain memories or emotions, they continue to haunt us like an echo that cannot be silenced. The music video, now available on YouTube, reinforces this unsettling atmosphere with symbolic imagery.
Balduvian Bears, meanwhile, is an emerging project from Salt Lake City, Utah, led by Zach Anderson. Their style blends post-punk, darkwave, and coldwave, drawing clear influence from iconic bands like Joy Division, The Cure, and New Order. The project is known for its introspective and emotional approach, exploring themes such as mental health, religious trauma, and personal reflection. Their visual identity includes a bear mask, symbolising the manifestation of Anderson’s “shadow” and the darker side of his personality, enhancing the melancholic and immersive atmosphere of their music.
Among their most notable tracks are “Reaper”, combining haunting synthesizers with ethereal guitars and lyrics about confronting inner fears and loss, and “everytime”, a single exploring emotional resilience through dark, enveloping melodies. Both tracks demonstrate Balduvian Bears’ ability to merge darkness, sensitivity, and a modern sound influenced by the post-punk and darkwave scene.
