Fortune Teller Unveil “Familiar” as They Build Towards Their 2027 Debut Album

by | Sep 20, 2026

British metal band Fortune Teller have released their new single “Familiar”, which arrived on September 18, 2026, alongside an official music video. The track offers another glimpse into the sound the band are developing ahead of their debut full-length album, currently scheduled for early 2027.

Fronted by Theresa Smith, also known for her work with Metaprism, Fortune Teller draw on several strands of modern and classic metal throughout “Familiar”. Melodic metal and power metal sit at the heart of the song, while symphonic touches add extra scale to its arrangement. Heavy guitar work, expansive melodies and Smith’s powerful vocals give the track a distinctly dramatic character.

The title “Familiar” refers to the supernatural companion traditionally associated with a witch. Fortune Teller use that idea as the starting point for a darker story about control, dependence and the decision to break free. Rather than focusing on the supernatural concept itself, the song uses it as a metaphor for a relationship that has become restrictive. Its central theme revolves around cutting ties with something that keeps a person trapped, leaving the past behind and attempting to rebuild after finally escaping those restraints. That emotional thread is reflected in the music, with the band balancing heavier passages against more melodic and atmospheric sections.

The official “Familiar” video is now available on YouTube. Fortune Teller were formed in 2025, bringing together musicians with backgrounds across the British metal scene.

The current line-up features:

  • Theresa Smith – vocals
  • Ian Rockett – guitar
  • Meyrick De La Fuente – keyboards
  • Joe Jaycock – guitar
  • David Billote – bass
  • Tim Coulson – drums
