Carmeria Release Third Studio Album “Ex Cathedra”

by | Oct 31, 2026

Australian symphonic metal band Carmeria have released their third studio album, Ex Cathedra, on October 30, 2026. The record follows their 2024 album Tragédie D’amour and 2025 EP Trinity: Volume I, combining the band’s established symphonic metal and gothic rock sound with stronger melodic rock influences. The album explores suffering as an unavoidable part of life, while focusing on the possibility of finding love, joy, and meaning despite difficult experiences.

Across the record, Carmeria address grief, guilt, betrayal, emotional exhaustion, and the importance of human connection. “Wings” draws from vocalist Jordan von Grae’s experiences working in mental health support, exploring compassion fatigue and the limits of helping others. “Unto the Dawn” focuses on supporting someone through difficult times, while “A Rose Divine,” the album’s only track featuring harsh vocals, examines the use of religious or personal beliefs to justify hatred and violence. The closing track, “Echoes of the Dream,” features guest vocalist Lindsay Schoolcraft and explores grief through an imagined conversation between someone mourning a loss and the person they have lost.

Other songs offer more personal perspectives, including “Embrace the Moon,” a ballad written by von Grae for his wife, and “Shadows in the Sunlight,” dedicated to the band’s fan community, known as The Carmunity. The album was primarily written, arranged, produced, and mixed by von Grae, with additional songwriting contributions from guitarist Jerry Zahija and keytarist Mishka Bobrov. Ex Cathedra continues Carmeria’s independent approach to music production while expanding on the themes and musical direction established across their previous releases.
