UK progressive metal outfit Vanitas return with «The Great Unknown», their latest single and music video, another step forward for a band steadily carving out their own space in the modern progressive metal scene.

Vanitas are quickly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting emerging names in progressive metal. Their distinctive sound, often described as a blend of Periphery and Disney, brings together progressive metal, djent and orchestral elements. Their influences range from video game composers such as Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) and Motoi Sakuraba (Dark Souls) to progressive metal heavyweights including Protest the Hero, Dream Theater and Devin Townsend.

The five-piece have been building their reputation on the live circuit, sharing stages with the likes of Monuments, Voyager, Galactic Empire and Destrage. In 2026, BBC Radio 1 named them one of the bands to watch, while their appearance at Bloodstock Festival, where they headlined the EMP Stage, further raised their profile on the international metal scene.

«The Great Unknown» follows the release of their 2025 EP Journey to the Sun and marks the next chapter in the band’s musical journey. With this new single, Vanitas continue to push their creative vision forward, showcasing the individuality, intricate songwriting and immersive qualities that set them apart.
