Forgotten Shrine Release New Concept Album “Nox Aeterna”

by | Nov 6, 2026

American folk metal duo Forgotten Shrine have released their new concept album, Nox Aeterna, independently on November 6, 2026. Formed by Sofia Frasz and Josh Alexander, the band combine traditional folk instruments, medieval-inspired melodies, and heavy metal with influences from power metal, southern gothic, and cinematic music. The album tells the story of two guardians protecting an ancient shrine dedicated to art, creativity, and freedom as a mysterious darkness threatens to destroy it.

The story unfolds across three acts, beginning with the guardians preparing for their journey before confronting the forces threatening their world and dealing with the aftermath. The album explores themes of adventure, revenge, loss, and the importance of preserving creativity and a sense of wonder. Among its tracks, “Gods Of War” draws inspiration from fantasy role-playing games, while the title track combines folk and power metal with a darker perspective told through a servant of the darkness. “Dearly Departed” examines revenge and the destructive consequences of giving in to anger.

Nox Aeterna also includes new versions of the duo’s earlier songs “Where Shadows Lie” and the traditional Scottish song “The Parting Glass,” the latter featuring guest flutist Ember Belladonna. Other tracks include “Halo,” which introduces country and pop influences, and “End Of The Dream,” which concludes the guardians’ journey. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Joshua Dalviken, with additional guest contributions from guitarist Kevino and spoken-word performances by Dalviken.
