Stockholm-based darkwave artist Aux Animaux mixes dark synth sounds with haunting vocals, dystopian vibes, and the eerie tones of a theremin. Inspired by horror movies and artists like John Carpenter, Gözde creates music that feels both intense and atmospheric. In this interview, she talks about her journey, influences, and what’s coming next.
Lizzie
Hello, Gözde! How is everything going?
Gözde
I’m very good, thank you. How are you?
Lizzie
I am all right! At what age did you start in the world of music? How did you realize that you wanted to dedicate yourself to it?
Gözde
I started playing music more seriously from high school. And I was hooked from that point on, just wanted to make a living playing music.
Lizzie
Could you tell us how your band “Aux Animaux” was formed?
Gözde
Aux Animaux was born from my love for horror movies and cool synthy soundtracks. I wanted to do something that sounds like John Carpenter’s music, and that’s how I got into synthesizers. Before that, I worked as a bass player.
Lizzie
Wow! He is a great artist too! I really like his works. What word or phrase do you think defines perfectly what you want to convey with your music?
Gözde
Apocalyptic eeriness.
Lizzie
Who are your biggest influences in music?
Gözde
As mentioned earlier, John Carpenter. With house gods, strangely more bands like Portishead and Massive Attack than the gothy stuff. I love a lot of current artists that inspire me like The Soft Moon, She Past Away, etc.
Lizzie
What differences exist between your album Hauntology (2022) and your latest one Body Horror (2023)?
Gözde
I think I finally found my sound with Body Horror, so I feel more content with the songs on that one. Hauntology was still baby steps with some of the songs, but I’m quite happy with “Devil Inside” from it.

Lizzie
Are there any new projects in sight?
Gözde
Yes, I’m working on a new album right now and also booking 2025’s shows. I also have some collabs and remixes on the way.
Lizzie
It will be a busy year for you then! That’s awesome! Favourite horror movie?
Gözde
John Carpenter’s Halloween.
Lizzie
Halloween is a work of art! What artists would you like to collaborate with? And in what festivals?
Gözde
I would have loved to collaborate with the late The Soft Moon. Unfortunately, it isn’t a possibility anymore. That’ll always be one of my biggest regrets—that we didn’t have the time to do the actual collab we talked about when he was still here with us.
Lizzie
And finally… any message that you want to send to your followers and fans?
Gözde
I appreciate each and every one of you! Without you, I couldn’t have been doing what I love most! Huge thanks for coming to see the shows, buying merch, listening to my tunes, and all the love and support!
Lizzie
Thank you so much for being with us in this interview today! We will be attentive to your next projects and tour dates!
Gözde
Thank you too!
