Lux Mortalis – “The Eventide Collapse” (Album Review)

Oct 3, 2025

The metal world is certainly full of talented artists and bands with interesting female voices, and today we want to take you into the most extreme metal with one of our reviews. “The Eventide Collapse” by Italian band Lux Mortalis is a work that shows a band with clear ideas from a technical point of view, but still searching for its own compositional identity. The album’s production is definitely good and does justice to the band’s sound, although the mixing could have benefited from some tweaking to give more space to the individual elements.

The album’s strength lies in its solid and compact rhythm section, which provides a reliable foundation on which to build the tracks. Standouts include “Awakening,” “Overflow,” and “Dying Light,” which reveal glimpses of inspiration. Unfortunately, it is precisely in the writing that the album shows its limitations: the compositions and melodies are at times predictable, following familiar patterns that do not surprise the listener.

However, listening to the album is enjoyable from start to finish, with no particularly boring or exhilarating moments. The band demonstrates good mastery of their instruments and a clearly perceptible cohesion as a whole. Some passages show flashes of originality that give a glimpse of what Lux Mortalis could become with greater artistic maturity and courage in their compositional choices.

Ultimately, “The Eventide Collapse” is an album that satisfies without thrilling. We are not dealing with a masterpiece, but neither is it a mediocre work: it is a respectable starting point for a band that still has a lot to say and explore. Fans of the genre will find enjoyable material, while Lux Mortalis now have the responsibility to push the creative accelerator for the next chapter.

That said, the potential is there. Lux Mortalis have demonstrated that they have the necessary technical skills; now they just need to be more daring and find a more personal voice. A promising debut that bodes well for the future.

Hi! My name is Benedetta, I’m 29 and I live in Northern Italy. My passion has always been music: I started taking guitar lessons when I was 6. Now I work as a sales representative, but in my free time I interview talented people, I spread the word about my favorite band (MoonSun), and I go to concerts or travel around Europe. I am a huge collector of anything Tolkien-related, autographs, merchandise, and CDs. I am quite an original person and don’t mind being the voice outside of the choir (even though I play in the church’s choir!).
