Alexandra Căpitănescu has released a new piano version of her single “Choke Me,” stripping back the intense nu-metal production of the original for a more melodic, vocal-focused arrangement. Released on April 16, 2026, this version highlights the song’s metaphorical themes of inner struggle and emotional pressure, which Căpitănescu has described as a reflection of self-doubt and the desire for growth.
“Choke Me” serves as Romania’s official entry for the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. As one of only six rock and metal songs out of the 35 competing entries this year, “Choke Me” represents a heavier side of the international competition. Căpitănescu, who rose to fame after winning Vocea României in 2023, is scheduled to perform in the first half of the second semi-final on May 14.
