SPANISH LOVE SONGS have today released their fifth full-length “FUTURE NAUSEA”. The record, which is produced by ex-Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla (Tegan and Sara, Foxing) and Illuminati Hotties’ Sarah Tudzin (Boygenius, Kississippi), is out via their long-time home of Pure Noise Records.
Spanish Love Songs kicked off their 19 city SOLD OUT tour on a particularly meaningful week in Washington DC at Songbyrd. The hope from Tuesday’s election seemed to seep into an energetic 16 song set which saw the live debut of several songs from “Future Nausea”. Mid-set, NIVA Executive Director Stephen Parker stepped on stage to present the band with the first ever “Live Independent Tour” certification plaque commemorating the tour initiative. The groundbreaking program ushered in by Spanish Love Songs will elevate and safeguard independent venues, promoters, and festivals nationwide.

A message from frontman Dylan Slocum of Spanish Love Songs
“Future Nausea emerged from a simple contradiction. We sought out the challenge to make our great American rock record. Something that recalls the 80s/90s heartland classics that we grew up with, and gave us the rush of hearing those songs for the first time. Only rather than allowing the album the mix of nostalgia and romance so many of those records have, I wanted to look forward.
It started with my father-in-law, watching the news of a billionaire’s return from space, making an off-hand comment about the guilt he feels thinking that his generation dreamed of putting everyday people on the moon, while this is what we get — the wealthy in space for fun, the rest of us down below hoping that things just won’t get worse than they already are.
I stopped scrolling on my phone long enough to type into my notes, “Our fathers dreamed of rockets. We just dream that it’s painless.”
From that simple idea, the story of the album fell into place quickly. I wanted to figure out what I felt happening around me right now.
The anxiety that keeps us up at night. The anger that overwhelms our bodies. The dismantling of our dreams one by one. Our reckoning with that loss. All high-stakes stories, life-or-death kind of stuff, backed by the hopes of major-key rock n roll. Everything turned up a little bit louder than before. The sound of 5 people, or of 500 people, sweating it out in a room, building something that can’t be faked. Trying to put words to all the things we think we’re alone in, and hoping to discover that we’re not.”
