Directly from Sweden, we had the pleasure of interviewing Dead by April. They played at Wacken Open Air on the 35th anniversary of the festival.

I’m here with the wonderful Dead by April. How are you doing guys?

Good. Amazing.

Benedetta

You’re playing back in this 35th anniversary edition. How does it feel to be here at such a historical event?

Dead By April

I mean, I can’t even describe how cool that was. That was insane. I’ve only heard stories about this crazy festival right here. And I’ve been wanting to play here for like 35 years. So, it’s a magical day for us, for sure. Yeah, it was awesome, yeah.

Benedetta

You have a lot of experience playing live shows, but also you have experience in the studio, do you think that the life of an artist is a lonely life?

Dead By April

It depends on through what aspects you mean. Well, when we are on tour, it’s not lonely. I mean, you have basically no privacy at all. You’re around people that you love and like, so it’s not lonely. And you meet the fans and stuff like that. Studio, it’s not necessarily lonely either, but it can be, yeah. I wouldn’t say lonely at all. You’re around so many people. Meeting so many new friends. It’s a super social business. Otherwise, sometimes it’s like, I want to be lonely. So, sometimes it’s like that, maybe. He usually is. Well, he used to be. Well, I have to say like that, because whatever we’re doing, eating, I just stand up and walk away. One time, we went on a tour, and I think it was like the first week. Everybody woke up, had some coffee, and all of a sudden, he said, “Okay, I’ll be back“. And we were like, “Oh, where is he going?” And four hours later, he came back, and he went to the swimming pool. I was like, “Did you do that by yourself?” He was like, “Yeah“. Wow. That’s amazing. This is an improvement.

Do you think that we will ever reach some equality between men and women in the metal world?

Dead By April

Well, for me, I hope so. We need more females in this. I mean, we have some awesome bands that have female vocalists in front. So, I hope so, for sure. Jinjer comes to mind. She’s cool. She’s really cool. Tatiana is amazing.
