Zorya is a Slovenian Atmospheric Black Metal duo who have emerged to the scene recently with two EPs, the latest being ‘Primeval’, released last May. We had the pleasure of interviewing Sara Jeremić and asking her about her band’s music, plans and many other things.
Hello Sara, It’s wonderful to chat with you. How are you doing?
Hey! Thank you for having me. I’m doing really well, thank you for asking!
You have released a new EP last month, entitled ‘Primeval’. How are you feeling about the reception this EP got from the fans so far?
From what we have seen and heard, we are very satisfied with people’s reactions. We’ve gained plenty of new listeners and even got positive feedback from people who aren’t used to this genre and style of music. So, overall, it has surpassed our expectations.
For our readers who haven’t checked the EP yet, what would you tell them to expect to listen to if they go and check it out now?
I would say they can expect a good soundtrack for a solitary walk in nature. It’s definitely not something you would have playing in the background while working from home, haha.
To get our readers to know you better or from a different point of view, how about we play a little imagination game? I will give you a scenario in an alternate universe and you’d have to react. Ready?
Ooh, yes, let’s do this!
In a universe where songs become humans when you write them, which song from ‘Primeval’ would be your best friend?
Waterfall! It’s a happy little maniac.
In a universe where humans have the tastes of hearing and tasting mixed up, what food would you expect Primeval to taste like?
A chilli pepper! First you taste it and it’s fine. And then… BAM! The aggression hits you.
In a universe where the currency used is the person’s sense of humour, how rich would you be?
I think I would definitely be a 7-figure!
In a universe where you’re the queen of a land, what would be an interesting law you’d make?
I would make it a law to be compassionate.
In a universe where you’re the Statue of Liberty, but instead of a torch you’re holding an object that represents your personality, what would you be holding?
A dildo! It would represent my dirty sense of humour well. Just the thought of that cracks me up!
LMAO. In a universe where you are a stand-up comedian instead of a musician, what would be a signature joke you’d tell?
I think it would be an embarrassing story about a stupid mistake I made, which I would then turn into a life lesson.
Thank you for playing, Sara! Hope you enjoyed the game.
This was really fun, we should this again sometime!
Have you ever been treated in a sexist way? How would you face sexism and what advice would you give to young people who face any kind of discrimination?
Oh, yes, I have! I think it all depends on the people and the situation. But I would say the first step is to stand up for yourself and speak up. If that doesn’t help, it’s important to do internal work and focus on not letting that eat you up. Because, ultimately, we can’t change others, we can only change our reactions to them.
After the EP release, what is next for Zorya? Have you got any plans you’d like to tell us about?
We are just really eager to create again, so we’ve already started working on new music. It’s also exciting to see how our path develops, which is a really beautiful and interesting process. So, it’s safe to say we can expect a new release in the next year, in the form of an album.
Thank you for the interview Sara! It has been a real pleasure!
