Symphonic Metal is probably one of the most popular metal sub-genres, and it’s definitely one of my favourites. Many bands embraced this particular style, and one of the best has to be Hel’s Throne. I had the chance to interview Bekka, lead vocalist of this German band, about music and more.
Interview
Hello Bekka, how are you doing at the moment?
At the moment, of course, I’m quite sad about the overall situation in this difficult time for musicians, bands and events, but I always have a positive view for better and carefree times without a split of society. I wish to be able to play a concert soon without restrictions for the people on stage and mainly in front of the stage.
I still remember the first time I listened to one of your tracks. I was absolutely in awe for the whole song! How has the audience welcomed “Ravens Flight”?
Our debut album has only received consistently positive feedback so far, and of course, I’m very happy about that.
For which artist/band would you play as an opening act in a live concert?
I am very sad about the news that Delain has disbanded. For this band, I would have loved to be the opener. In principle, however, I am simply happy to make music, and I like to meet many new musicians. So there is no special band for me.
Do you have “rituals” before going on stage?
There is no special ritual before I enter the stage. Take a deep breath and start the show!
What is the best trait you have that is also a trait from your mom or dad?
My mom has been a singer herself for many years. Even as a child, I was allowed to watch many of her concerts live. Now I’ve been on stage for 20 years. As a child, it was always a big dream of mine. I also wanted to sing like my mom.
Wonderful! Tell me an unpopular opinion (if you have one!).
It´s a good question but I can’t think of anything unpopular.
It’s awful that women, even in the 21st century, are being treated differently than men. Have you ever dealt with or witnessed an episode of sexism?
Unfortunately, this is still an issue these days. There is no reason to treat women differently than men. Women’s performance is still undervalued or even disregarded. The know-how, experience and creativity of women should not be underestimated and gain more respect. I didn’t have to make the experience by myself, and I’m very happy about that.
I’d like to play a game with you: what would you do if someone calls you right now and tells you that you’ve inherited a pizzeria from a distant relative?
Laughing… Because I have only a small knowledge of baking a pizza, the pizzeria should be run by professionals. But I would regularly visit my inherited pizzeria to eat spaghetti carbonara. 😊
I’d book a table right now! Speaking of pizza… what is your favourite food?
There is no special favourite food. However, healthy food is very important for me.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview! Is there anything else you’d like to say to FemMetal readers?
Please, you’re welcome. Stay healthy, and hold on! The better times will come!
Hi! My name is Benedetta, I’m 29 and I live in Northern Italy. My passion has always been music: I started taking guitar lessons when I was 6. Now I work as a sales representative, but in my free time I interview talented people, I spread the word about my favorite band (MoonSun), and I go to concerts or travel around Europe.
I am a huge collector of anything Tolkien-related, autographs, merchandise, and CDs. I am quite an original person and don’t mind being the voice outside of the choir (even though I play in the church’s choir!).
