In this interview, we had the privilege of talking with Melladonna, the dynamic vocalist at the helm of The Fixer, a Metal/Rock band hailing from Canada. Join us as we ask about their upcoming album and music in general, while we get to know the talented vocalist a bit better.
Hello Melladonna! It’s really nice to meet you! How have you been?
It’s been great! These are exciting times.
Great! You will be releasing your new album “Your Lie” in a few months. How excited are you about this release?
I’m very much looking forward to getting to share what we’ve been working on with everyone. It feels really weird to have all this music but people can only hear the 6 songs we’ve released so far. It will be nice to have more available.
How would you describe your style of music to someone who never got the chance to listen to it before?
I think it’s fairly song dependent. We straddle rock and metal, but some songs are heavier, or more danceable, or moodier, or more experimental.
Good variety! What songs from your upcoming album are you most excited to see the reaction of people to?
I’m excited about all of them! They are all my babies.
Let’s play a game! I will set a scenario in an alternate universe with new rules and see how you’d react to the different situations. Ready?
Maybe?
Let’s see! In a universe where humans can choose either to be able to teleport from one place to another or travel back and forth in time, which superpower would you pick?
That’s hard, both would be so useful. I think Vic would tell me to pick teleportation, because I can get impatient, especially with travel.
In a universe where humans only see in greyscale, what would your favourite colour be?
Grey?
In a universe where money does not exist, but instead, people pay for things by making other people laugh, how rich would you be considered?
I think I’m funny, but in comparison to other people, I think I’d end up fairly center of the pack.
In a universe where you are an evil overlord, what object would you bind yourself with so you would never die?
Something fairly indestructible would be ideal… I think I’ll go with a very small pyrex measuring cup.
In a universe where you were given the task to take the One Ring to Mount Doom and destroy it instead of Frodo, which one of your bandmates would you take with you on the quest?
I’m not very familiar with Frodo’s task, but I’ll pick Vic, because I’d spend time with him for any journey.
Thank you for playing! I hope you enjoyed this game.
Do you remember the first time you performed live on stage? What was your experience like?
The first time I was on stage? I can’t say I remember. I would have been 5 years old, or even younger. I’ve been on stage my entire live. I’d live there if I could.
Have you ever experienced any kind of sexism in your professional life? What advice would you give our young readers who might experience any kind of discrimination?
Oh yeah, we even have a song about it. I don’t think there is a person in the world who hasn’t dealt with some level of discrimination. I’m incredibly lucky to have found my group of people who love and support me, that’s how I deal, not alone.
Thank you for the interview and your time, Melladonna. Is there anything you’d like to add?
I’d like to thank you for the interview and mention that we will be touring around Canada, so keep up to date on our socials for when we may be near you, and for anyone outside of Canada, you can see us in our music videos. We most recently released a video for “Smoke Show” that has some really great scenic shots of our area along with fast cars, pretty ladies, and fire!
Being a feminist has been normalized as an irregularity through our patriarchal society, so I'd rather be called a "decent human" than a "feminist man". I breathe Metal and Rock and have a screwed-up sense of humour.
