Interview with Giorgia Romanin (Final Stage)

Jul 7, 2024

Final Stage is a band cruising onto the scene with a unique, powerful modern metal sound. They announced themselves loudly with singles like “Save This Heart” and “Endless Love” in 2023, earning a nomination for Best Breakthrough Rock Act at the FemMetal Awards 2023. We had the chance to chat with Giorgia Romanin, vocalist and keyboardist, as she told us about how Final Stage was formed, and their musical identity, and shared some exciting news about an upcoming release!

Reuel

Hello Giorgia. It’s a pleasure to chat with you. How are you and the rest of the band doing?

Giorgia Romanin

Hi, my pleasure, and thanks a lot for inviting me to chat here with you! We’re all fine and we’re in the middle of our summer tour, so we are really hyped.

Reuel

Can you tell us about the formation of Final Stage and how the band came together?

Giorgia Romanin

We’ve been playing together since January 2020 and there are four of us: me, the singer and keyboardist, our bass player Mattia, our guitarist Andrea and our drummer Davide, who is also my brother. He and I decided to start a band with someone who had our same passion for music, so we called Mattia e Andrea, since we studied in the same music school.

Reuel

What inspired the name ‘Final Stage’ for your band?

Giorgia Romanin

The name Final Stage represents the final act of a show, which is usually the most memorable and powerful part, the one that gets stuck in your head. We chose this name because we want to be something memorable for the ones that listen to our songs or see us playing live.

Reuel

Brilliant! How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your songs?

Giorgia Romanin

In the songs that we already published, we tried to experiment a lot, so I think that it can be hard to define a style. We figured out recently what we define as “our sound”, and you can hear a bit of it in our latest single “More than an Echo”. It can be defined as modern metal, with a lot of influences by metalcore and alternative metal in the instrumentals, very melodic vocals and a lot of electronics and synths.

Reuel

Are there artists or genres that influence your music that might surprise your fans?

Giorgia Romanin

There are at least two peculiar influences in our music: Pink Floyd with their progressive style of playing and Adele, in some of our piano parts for our songs, like in “Dried Roses”.

Reuel

How was the experience of playing at major festivals like Padova Metal Fest and DGT Festival?

Giorgia Romanin

It was really amazing because we faced two huge stages and it was an honor being able to play our songs in two scenarios like those. We had these amazing opportunities thanks to the managers of these events, who decided to call us after seeing us playing live, because of the emotions they felt.

Reuel

Amazing! What themes or messages do you try to convey through your music?

Giorgia Romanin

Usually, we try to talk about feelings that might need some help to be faced, like loneliness, regrets or oppression. Sometimes we do it by describing the feeling, like we did in “Save this Heart”, some other times we like to tell the story of someone who experienced it, like we did in “Endless Love”.

Reuel

So far you’ve only released singles. Do you have any plans to release an album any time soon?

Giorgia Romanin

Actually, with an exclusive announcement, we can tell you that we just finished recording our first album! We are now scheduling the publication, which is planned by next year, and we can’t wait to let you hear our new songs.

Reuel

That’s great news! Can’t wait to hear it! Being such a young band, what challenges have you faced in the music industry and how have you overcome them?

Giorgia Romanin

The main challenge, at the beginning, was to pay for all the instruments, the sound system and all of that stuff. In this way, we really need to thank our parents, who are very supportive and helped us getting started, giving us this amazing opportunity to pursue our dream.

Reuel

If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Giorgia Romanin

I would absolutely love to collaborate with Amy Lee by Evanescence. She is my biggest inspiration, for singing, playing and writing music. Every time I hear something from her I get goosebumps. I also managed to see her during Evanescence’s latest live performance in Milan and I loved the way she expressed her feelings through her voice. It would be an absolute honor to play with her.

Reuel

She’s an inspiration to many musicians! Thank you for the interview, Giorgia. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Giorgia Romanin

I would recommend to follow us on our social networks and digital stores, to be updated with all the news coming soon after this summer. Thank you again for this interview, it was an honor and a pleasure.
