Interview with Amy Gould (Eden On Fire)

Apr 13, 2025

Pennsylvania band Eden On Fire released their debut album Unresolved in 2024. We had the chance to chat with vocalist and keyboard player Amy Gould about the record, their sound, her influences, and her thoughts on all things music.

Reuel

Hello Amy! How are you and the rest of Eden On Fire doing?

Amy Gould

Hello! We are doing very well! It’s been a great start to 2025 for us. We have a new lineup this year, and it has just taken us to a new level!

Reuel

You released your debut album ‘Unresolved’ around the end of last year! How are you feeling about the way this album was received by your fans?

Amy Gould

The response to our album has been remarkable. There was a lot of hype leading up to it because we had released the 4 singles. People were really excited for the full LP. Now, we are feeling the pressure to get more new music out there!

Reuel

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Amy Gould

We are an interesting mix of symphonic metal meets melodic power metal that is heavily influenced by the power metal bands of the 1980s. Our songs tend to all have a life of their own, though. People often have a hard time pigeonholing us into a specific genre because we go from anthemic to traditional metal to a classic metal sound. And I love that we do this.

Reuel

If you were to choose one song from ‘Unresolved’ to introduce someone to your music, which song would you choose?

Amy Gould

I think Listen To Me is a good example of all the things we do. From the piano intro to the hard-hitting riffs, my raspy vocals, and a cool breakdown you get a taste of all the things we like to hit on.

Reuel

This sounds amazing! Which song from the album receives the best reaction when you perform it live?

Amy Gould

I would say that Set Me Free gets a very good response. That song comes out swinging from the gate and includes gang vocals from the guys. It’s one of our more hard hitting songs. We usually hear a lot of “Aw yeah’s” after the fact.

Reuel

What is the message or emotion that you would like people who listen to Eden On Fire to take from your music?

Amy Gould

My lyrics have dark tones and are personal. I write music as therapy. You will see themes in our songs. What I hope is that the listener will relate in some way. We have people tell us that Fallen and Broken, especially hit them in the feels and that was really an unexpected benefit for me.

Reuel

Can you tell us a little about your musical background? What musicians had the most influence on you growing up and inspired you to become an artist yourself?

Amy Gould

I have been a musician for as long as I can remember. As a little girl I knew I wanted to be on a stage singing. I started playing piano very young by ear. My parents saw this and bought me a very old, partly broken upright piano that I used for a lot of years. I began writing full songs when I was about 10 years old. When I hit the teenage years, I was listening to everything. I found myself especially drawn to the women rock artists of the time. Pat Benetar, The Go-Gos, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Heart, and Vixen all resonated with me. And as I matured, I started to find a kinship with the heavier metal such as Judas Priest and Metallica. But watching the female artists of the time, especially Benetar, I wanted to be like her. Many a day was spent in front of my mirror singing into a hairbrush!

Reuel

Wow! Great names you mentioned. If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Amy Gould

There are so many (I mean a duet with Pat Benetar? Yes, please!. But if I could only pick one, I’d pick Prince. That dude was a brilliant songwriter and guitarist. He wrote so much music over the years that many don’t even realize he had his hand in. Writing with him would be amazing!

Reuel

How do you feel about the representation of women in heavy music today, and what do you think can be done to promote more inclusivity and support for female musicians?

Amy Gould

My high-level overview is that it’s getting better but we have a long way to go. There are so many great female artists in the field now. And I’m especially excited that the talent spans many age groups! Women finally have a foothold in this industry not just as sexy placeholders but as exceptionally talented vocalists, instrumentalists, and songwriters. That said, when you ask the general public which female-fronted metal band they like the best, they can usually only name two. And that is where we need to do better. I suspect that the large industry labels are holding the line on this. Many of us are still independent artists and we just don’t have the promotional power the big guys do. So the bigger industry needs to start embracing more women in metal and hard rock.

Reuel

Thank you for your time, Amy, and for this interview! Is there anything else you’d like to conclude this interview with?

Amy Gould

Support independent music! There is a lot of it out there today. Check it out! Throw $15-20 at the artist’s album if you like what they do. Go see a live show and buy their merch. Independent artists are doing this for the love of what they do but also struggle to keep going financially without your support. Thank you so much for having me!
