Ebru from the Turkish band Orpharion takes us on a journey through their new album, A Faraway World. The symphonic metal queen answers a series of creative, out-of-the-box questions that bring the album to life.
If all the songs from your album came to life as humans, which song would be your best friend?
My Heart Draws a Dream would definitely be my best friend. It’s a gentle soul that understands my inner battles and always reminds me to hold on to hope and keep dreaming.
If all the songs from your album came to life as humans, which one is most likely to get arrested?
Definitely, Lurking Truth. There’s a young witch in that song who can’t quite control the magic running through her veins. She means well, but let’s just say things tend to explode when she’s around. I wouldn’t be surprised if the authorities showed up just to try and contain the chaos!
If all the songs from your album came to life as humans, which one is most likely to start a revolution, and for what cause?
Dead Marshes! She would start a revolution not out of ambition, but out of desperation. She’s a tragic anti-hero, someone who turns to ancient, forbidden power in order to protect her people from invaders. Her heart is in the right place, and she’s willing to sacrifice everything, even herself. But in the end, the power she calls upon doesn’t distinguish between friend and foe. The revolution she leads becomes a curse, turning both enemies and her own people into the undead. She fights for survival, but what she creates is something far darker.
If all the songs from your album came to life as humans, which one is most likely to start a cult?
The Storyteller would undoubtedly be the one to start a cult. Despite her own brokenness, she finds strength through the faith of her loved ones. She decides to become the voice for her people, narrating their hidden histories and offering solace and guidance. Her ability to inspire and create a profound sense of belonging, even from a place of vulnerability, makes her an incredibly compelling figure for a devoted following.
If all the songs from your album worked in an office, which one would be the boss, and which one would be the office prankster?
Fire Mountain would be the boss, and Majestic Lights the prankster. Fire Mountain asserts powerful, watchful authority with its warnings and talk of destructive secrets, ensuring everyone stays in line. Majestic Lights, on the other hand, embodies dazzling, ephemeral beauty and wonder, perfect for delightful, magical pranks that brighten everyone’s day!
In the year 4025, an archaeologist finds your album on a drive inside the remains of an ancient car and manages to salvage the data. Which song is most likely to be played in a museum after this discovery?
Dead Marshes would be the song most likely to be played in a museum! Its multi-part narrative of invasion, sacrifice, and the transformation from conflict to a new, dark reality offers a rich historical tapestry, perfect for understanding a lost civilization’s struggles and ultimate fate.
Aliens are invading Earth, and their weakness is songs with emotional lyrics. Which song from your album would be the best weapon to repel the invasion?
If aliens were invading Earth and their weakness was emotional songs, Song of The Exiled Ones would be our best weapon. The lyrics of shared tears, lost peace, and profound despair, combined with themes of exile and uncertainty, would unleash an overwhelming wave of human sorrow, effectively repelling any emotional alien invader.
Aliens are invading Earth, and their weakness is guitar solos. Which song from your album would be the best weapon to fight back against them?
The guitar solo in the second part of Dead Marshes would be our best weapon. It’s a very strong and fast solo, full of energy. Its powerful sound and skilled playing would definitely defeat any aliens who can’t stand loud and impressive guitar solos, helping us win the fight.
Which song from your album would you use to introduce someone to your music for the first time?
I would use Majestic Lights to introduce someone to our music for the first time. It beautifully showcases the ethereal and grand atmospheric elements present in our sound. The song describes the magnificent moments of the cosmos and the harmony of northern colors. It really captures a sense of wonder and vastness, which is a core part of Orpharion’s identity. It’s majestic, captivating, and instantly gives a good impression of our musical landscape.
Which song from your album would you choose to encourage a friend going through a tough time?
I would choose My Heart Draws A Dream to encourage a friend going through a tough time. It starts by talking about sadness and feeling lost, but then it quickly shifts to finding inner peace and a solution. The song shows how important it is to feel affection and sympathy from others, and to know that people have faith in you. Even when things are gloomy, inspiration can appear, helping you see your goals and draw a dream for the future.
If one song from your album could survive an apocalypse and be passed on to the survivors, which one would you choose?
If one song from our album could survive an apocalypse, I would choose The Storyteller. It’s about restoring what’s broken and holding onto hope. She becomes the voice for legends, showing how stories and knowledge are key to survival and rebuilding. This message of endurance and guidance would be vital for any new civilization.
If your album were a fancy dinner, which song would be the main course and which would be the dessert?
If our album were a fancy dinner, Sleep Well would be the main course. It’s a comforting and deep song, like the main dish that fills you up. For dessert, Majestic Lights would be perfect. It’s full of wonder and beauty, like a sparkling and sweet end to a great meal!
Which song from your album would you pick for someone who isn’t a fan of Metal or Rock?
I would pick Song of The Exiled Ones for someone who isn’t usually a fan of Metal or Rock. While it has moments that build, much of the song is slower and more focused on expressing strong feelings. The lyrics are very poetic, exploring themes of memory, despair, and secret hopes. Its emotional storytelling and atmospheric quality might appeal more to someone who enjoys softer, more introspective music, rather than heavy riffs or fast tempos.
If one song from your album could be played on every radio, TV, and podcast worldwide so everyone could hear it, which one would you choose?
If one song from the album could reach the whole world, it would be Fire Mountain. It captures the essence of our sound and story – dramatic, powerful, and emotionally raw. Its flames would burn their way into the hearts of listeners everywhere!
