I had the chance to chat with Awake Consciousness vocalist Ira Kero. The Spanish metalcore band released their debut in 2022 and has just returned from a European tour. Check out what Ira had to say about the tour, her inspirations and passions, and, most importantly, the band’s upcoming releases!
Reuel
Hello, Ira! I’m very happy to catch up with you. How are you doing?
Ira Kero
I’m happy. Very pleased and grateful to be able to do this interview with you.
Reuel
My pleasure! Your latest tour in Europe has just wrapped up. What was that experience like for you?
Ira Kero
I loved the experience. Very enriching and fun.
Reuel
Were there any moments on stage or in the cities that particularly stood out?
Ira Kero
The Lisbon crowd was incredibly enthusiastic. In Poland, they also gave it their all. In Warsaw, I took advantage of the pole dance bar in the pit and jumped on it in the middle of the concert.
Reuel
Amazing! Your debut album came out in 2022, a huge milestone for any band. How has life changed for you since its release?
Ira Kero
It really hasn’t changed much. We’ve become much more well-known. But we’re still working like we did in the beginning, composing and thinking about releasing new material soon.
Reuel
Are you planning to release new music anytime soon?
Ira Kero
Yes! We have four singles, and the first one will probably come out at the end of this year.
Reuel
This is great news! What is something you’re passionate about aside from music?
Ira Kero
I am passionate about modeling for fashion designers, pole dancing (I am a teacher), paranormal investigations, and astrology (I also work in it).
Reuel
Wow! All interesting fields. Which musicians did you grow up listening to, and how have they inspired you both personally and musically?
Ira Kero
So many!!! Iron Maiden, Nirvana, Sepultura… Arch Enemy has been my main influence.

Reuel
What are your thoughts on the representation of women in heavy music, and how can inclusivity for female musicians be improved?
Ira Kero
Years ago it may have been more difficult, but today it’s very common to find women in music. And there are more and more groups with a female member, so I think it’s a barrier that’s already broken.
Reuel
Thank you for your time, Ira! Is there anything you’d like to add?
Ira Kero
Thank you so much. Just keep an eye on our website and Instagram, because we’ll be releasing the new single soon, and you’re going to be amazed… A great international singer will also be collaborating on one of these singles.
