“It’s about standing back up and saying, ‘I’m still not gone, fool, hit harder.’” — Interview with Leo Luther (Luther)

“It’s about standing back up and saying, ‘I’m still not gone, fool, hit harder.’” — Interview with Leo Luther (Luther)

With a powerful debut and more music on the way, Luther is quickly becoming a band to watch. We caught up with Leo Luther, who shared insights about her band’s upcoming plans, creative spark, and more.

Reuel

Hello Leo! It’s great to talk with you. How are you doing?

Leo Luther

Hi Reuel, thank you very much for reaching out to us. It’s an honor. Today is a bit gloomy in Berlin; I’m adjusting to the scenery.

Reuel

You’ve released “Next time send a killer” lately, and looking at the views and streams on YouTube and Spotify, the fans seem to love it! How are you feeling about the way it was received?

Leo Luther

I am overexcited. I did release music in the past, but this is a fresh start with a new project, and we are grateful that it could set the tone. I was not expecting this much engagement. We are very grateful.

Reuel

How would you describe Luther’s music to our readers who haven’t had the chance to listen to your music yet?

Leo Luther

Alternative, progressive, and core-ish metal!

Reuel

Beautiful! What was the inspiration behind “Next time send a killer”?

Leo Luther

“Next Time Send a Killer” describes the feeling you experience when someone you trusted and who claimed to care for you betrays you, attacks you, and leaves you for dead. It’s about standing back up and saying, I’m still not gone, fool, hit harder.

Reuel

With your first songs being released, what’s next for Luther? Will there be more singles and EPs coming, or are you planning something bigger?

Leo Luther

We’re mixing our debut album. We have the best unreleased music videos I’ve ever seen from someone at our “level”. I just wish we could find some good partners so we don’t have to do every single step ourselves; it’s getting tough.

Reuel

Good luck with all that! What musicians can you credit as the ones who inspired you, as a person or an artist?

Leo Luther

“Next Time Send a Killer” is heavily inspired by Kim Dracula!

Reuel

What are your feelings about the way women are represented in heavy music today, and what do you think can be done to promote more inclusivity and support for female musicians?

Leo Luther

I was kicked out of a major label contract by my ex-band members, who collectively did 60% less than I did for that band. My catalog, four years of investment, four years of achievements, the label contract, the money in the bank — all gone. Now that band is hiring another girl to front in my place. Anyone who doesn’t completely submit to the decisions and artistic styles of who’s in power will be treated like a commodity. Let me tell you, I used to have a network of around 300 people. Once I was dropped, almost no one cared about the injustice I faced. Take whatever you want from that, haha.

Reuel

Well, that’s infuriating. Thank you for sharing with us. Thank you for your time, Leo, and for this interview! Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Leo Luther

Thank you for this. We’re soooo excited to bring you new music that will hopefully resonate with you the way our favorite artists’ music resonates with us. See you in the pit??
