Interview
Hello Jessica! How are you and the other members of Red Calling doing?
I’m doing well thanks! The Guys are doing fine, we’re all working on new stuff with the band now.
I really enjoyed checking out your band. How would you introduce Red Calling to our readers who haven’t got to hear it yet?
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it! We’re a 4-piece hard rock/metal band from Tampa, FL United States. But before anything we’re family, we’re friends, who happen to share the same passion for music.
Your band recently came back with two beautiful singles. Your last album was in 2016 though. Are you planning for a new album to be released soon?
Yes, we’re currently working on a new EP, our latest single “I had it all” will be part of it along with 4 more songs. We’re also working on the pre-production of our new video that’ll be released on early 2021.
We have a tradition in FemMetal to play a game with our guests so readers would get to know them better in an exciting and fun way. This game is about how you’d act in an alternate reality. Ready?
Yes, sounds like fun lol
In a universe where you’re the lead singer of a Jazz band, what would the band’s name be?
Red Calling Quartet lol
In a universe where you’re a pirate, what treasure would you be seeking?
It can be any famous artifact or item in a museum. Oh gold coins and gems definitely lol BTW the world’s largest collection of authentic pirate artifacts is here in St Augustine, FL USA.
That’s interesting! In a universe where the currency is the person’s sense of humour, how rich would you be?
Middle class lol
Well, I laughed, so you just got richer in that universe. 😂 In a universe where humans shapeshift into the singer of the song they last heard, who would you look like right now?
Bjork
In a universe where time travel exists, what time or era would you like to visit?
2030
Thank you for playing, Jessica! What do you believe makes Red Calling’s sound stand out to other bands in the same genre?
We’re always experimenting with new sounds, dynamics, melodies, new elements like electronic music, complex guitar riffs, etc to achieve an original sound. We as artists always try to create something new, we try to sound as real and raw as we can. Music is a language and we try to express ourselves in a unique way. Being a female vocalist also gives the band a different sound, especially in the hard rock/metal genre where male voices are predominant.
Have you ever been treated in a sexist way? How would you face sexism and what advice would you give to young people who face any kind of discrimination?
No, never. I’ve been pretty lucky, sometimes some guys joke around before we play cause they prob think I suck at playing guitar, but after we play they’re really nice and supportive. I’ve heard some terrible stories about sexual harassment and misogyny from other female musicians and it’s very sad. I always hear people talk about sexism in the music industry and I’d really love to see more women in key positions at the top. But we definitely must speak up if we see ourselves in these kinds of situations. We should force the offender to consider his/her actions right then and there. Also, we shouldn’t settle for double standards, men and women should be treated equally.
What is your most valuable music-related memory from when you were growing up?
Spending countless hours in front of a turntable playing my dad’s vinyl records and listening to great tunes. I learned a lot about the greatest rock/pop artists and bands thanks to him.
That’s awesome. Thank you for the interview Jessica! Good luck for you and Red Calling in your future projects!
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to share our music and for all of your support! Good luck and best wishes for you guys!
