Despite their tour slowly coming to an end, Broken By The Scream did not lack any energy during their first-ever concert in Poland. The group had their first pit stop in the country on their Screaming Rebellion tour at Stary Klasztor in Wroclaw on August 7th 2026. The scorching heatwave that has been hanging over the country did not deter fans, who eagerly packed into the old convent-turned-concert venue, with fans arriving from all over Poland and other European countries. 

Broken By The Scream are known for combining the high-energy appeal of Japanese idol culture with the sheer intensity of extreme metal. For first-time listeners, the contrast can initially be somewhat jarring, with songs shifting suddenly between crushing riffs, guttural growls and piercing screams before bursting into upbeat melodies and an all-out J-pop idol performance. It is precisely this collision of energies that makes the band so engaging, particularly in a live setting, where those different style shifts translate into an infectious energy throughout the venue.

The concert drew a diverse crowd of fans of different ages, some eagerly awaiting the chance to see one of their favorite artists live for the first time, while others were returning for yet another show and another opportunity to rock out with the girls from beneath the stage. Regardless of how many times they had seen the band before, the excitement throughout the audience was palpable. 

The moment Io, Tsubaki, Shizuku, Yayoi and their Zombie band took to the stage, they were welcomed by the light of blue glowsticks held up by the audience to celebrate Yayoi Takayashiki’s birthday. The 11-song set started off with “Koi wa Otome no Nakidokoro” from the band’s first studio album “An Aliens Portrait”, before moving straight into another song from the same album, “Do・Do・N・Pa!!“.

From the very first song, the moshpit opened up and barely seemed to close for the remainder of the night. Throughout the set, it took on several different forms, from the classic circle pit to a rowing pit, and at one particularly memorable point toward the end of the show, something I had never encountered at a show before- a push-up pit. Yet the energy extended beyond the pit. Whether fans were moshing, headbanging, jumping along to the music, or simply singing along to the songs, the audience mirrored the infectious energy of the group throughout the show. 

The band then powered through their latest single “Hanakabura” and “Kanjo Cross Counter“ before a small surprise occurred on stage. With Yayoi’s birthday providing the perfect occasion for celebration, the band’s crew surprised her on stage with a candle-topped dessert and a small bouquet of flowers. As they were brought out, her fellow members joined the audience in singing “Happy Birthday”, while fans once again began waving the blue glowsticks. After Yayoi blew out the candles, the Polish crowd added a local touch to the celebration by breaking into “Sto Lat”, a traditional Polish birthday song. 

The main set then continued with “Sayonara Birthday“, “TOKYO RIDE“, “Ai wa Kimi no Mono“, and ended with “Tsuioku no Nazca“. However, the crowd was far from ready for the night to end. Almost as soon as the group disappeared from the stage, chants of “one more song” echoed through the venue, making their desire for an encore abundantly clear. 

When the lights came back up, it was not the girls who returned first but instead their Zombie band. They took their places on stage for an instrumental medley of well-known rock and metal classics. The interlude included recognizable tracks such as Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” and A Day To Remember’s “Mr. Highway’s Thinking About the End”, giving the musicians their own moment in the spotlight, while keeping the crowd energized ahead of the group’s return. 

Broken By The Scream then returned to the stage for the final stretch of the night. The encore brought two more songs, “KI・RA・I!!“ and “Yume Hanabi“. With the final notes played, the group gathered at the front of the stage for a photo with the audience, capturing one last memory from the night before saying their goodbyes. After a show filled with crushing riffs and infectious idol energy, it was a fitting end to an eventful evening. For those seeing the band for the first time, as well as the dedicated fans returning to see them once again, it was surely a concert that will remain in their memories for some time to come.
