Japanese music’s UK Boom As Major Showcase ‘matsuri’ Makes London Debut

by | Nov 3, 2026

Three of Japan’s most exciting artists are heading to London this December, as Japanese music showcase matsuri 26: Japanese Music Experience LONDON makes its European debut at Outernet Live on Monday 14 December 2026. Tickets will be available here from 10am on Friday 6th November https://www.livenation.co.uk/matsuri-tickets-adp1709858.

The line-up brings together three diverse Japanese artists who are making waves internationally:

Hitsujibungaku, the award-winning Japanese alternative rock band whose track “more than words”, featured in hit anime series Jujutsu Kaisen, has amassed over 200 million streams worldwide. With growing acclaim across the world, they have toured across the US, Asia and Europe.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, the internationally celebrated J-pop icon, hyperpop pioneer and Charli xcx collaborator, whose colourful Harajuku-inspired style has earned her a global following including Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga.

Otoboke Beaver, the ferocious Japanese punk rock band renowned for their explosive live performances. In 2024, their North American tour sold over 20,000 tickets, while in 2025 they supported Green Day, Jack White, Foo Fighters and Oasis at their shows in Japan.

Together, the three acts will celebrate the diversity and creativity of contemporary Japanese music.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu said: “I’m so excited to be performing in London again for the first time in a year! I’m especially looking forward to sharing the stage this time with such a wonderfully diverse group of Japanese female artists, each with their own unique character and style. I’ll give it everything I’ve got to share the magic of Japanese music with everyone in London!”

Otoboke Beaver said: “Hello! We’re OTOBOKE BEAVER from Japan! We’re honoured and excited to be asked to play matsuri LONDON. We’re travelling all the way to London especially for this event, and we look forward to seeing everyone there. See you under the mirror ball!”

From Pokémon and Studio Ghibli to sushi, matcha and fashion, Japan’s cultural influence is firmly established in Britain and around the world. Now, Japanese music is following suit, with a boom of popularity in the UK. In the past two years alone, six Japanese artists have performed or announced shows at London’s O2 Arena: Ado, BABYMETAL, Hatsune Miku, Joji, Kenshi Yonezu and ONE OK ROCK.

This growing international appetite marks a significant shift for Japan, which is home to the world’s second largest recorded music market after the United States. Historically, the country’s music industry has been largely focused on its substantial domestic market. Now, Japanese artists are reaching new audiences around the world through streaming, social media, live shows and the ever-increasing global popularity of anime. The Japanese government is also supporting the global expansion of its content industry through IP360, which aims to increase overseas sales from ¥6.1 trillion in 2024 to ¥20 trillion by 2033.

The showcase is presented by MUSIC WAY PROJECT, a collaborative initiative between the Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA), organiser of MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN, and TOYOTA GROUP.

By bringing ‘matsuri’ to London for the first time, the MUSIC WAY PROJECT aims to introduce Japanese music and culture to new audiences in one of the world’s leading centres for music and entertainment.

Tickets will be available through Live Nation, with the O2 presale beginning on 4th November and Live Nation’s pre-sale on 5th November. General sale will open at 10am on Friday 6th November from https://www.livenation.co.uk/matsuri-tickets-adp1709858
