Just under three years since their explosive debut studio album in 2021, the Canadian powerhouse, Lutharo, are back with their intense signature of Melodic Death Metal, as they are ready to unleash “Chasing Euphoria”, their new album, on the 15th of March, 2024. We had the pleasure of diving with Lutharo’s electrifying vocalist, Krista Shipperbottom into the world of “Chasing Euphoria” while exploring her reflections on Lutharo‘s musical journey and beyond. Enjoy this interview with Krista Shipperbottom.
Reuel
Hello Krista! It’s nice to chat with you once again! How have you been?
Krista Shipperbottom
Hello! Awesome to chat with you again, myself and the guys have been great!
Reuel
You will be releasing your new album “Chasing Euphoria” in a few months. How excited are you about this release?
Krista Shipperbottom
I am extremely excited to be releasing “Chasing Euphoria” in March! We’ve worked so hard on this album and experimented with a lot of different things. This is the first album that I have sung in a softer tone, so I’m very interested to see how that along with everything else will be received.
Reuel
I’m excited to hear that! The last time we talked your EP “Wings of Agony” was just released. Since then you’ve released your debut album “Hiraeth”. How has your music evolved since and will we feel something new or different in “Chasing Euphoria”?
Krista Shipperbottom
I feel like we’ve been evolving quite rapidly as musicians since “Wings of Agony”. Hiraeth was our first full length album so that one gave us an extra nudge out of our comfort zone. However, since then we’ve been working extremely hard at our craft to give people even more of an authentic musical experience. This I believe has led to “Chasing Euphoria” being our most emotional release yet.
Reuel
Let’s play a game! I will set a scenario in an alternate universe with new rules and see how you’d react to the different situations. Ready?
Krista Shipperbottom
YES!
Reuel
In a universe where you’re a necromancer, which late musician would you ask for advice?
Krista Shipperbottom
Hmmmm that’s a tough question.. I think I would have to go with Dio for obvious reasons though.
Reuel
In a universe where humans can choose either to be able to teleport from one place to another or travel back and forth in time, which superpower would you pick?
Krista Shipperbottom
I think I would choose to teleport from one place to another. Being able to go anywhere in the world in seconds would be pretty incredible! Traveling back and forth through time would be cool but I don’t think I’d like to know my future because I would be waiting for certain events to take place which would ruin the present moment. Also I feel if I could travel back in time I would just go back and relive certain events over and over ruining their significance.
Reuel
That’s great reasoning. In a universe where money does not exist, but instead, people pay for things by making other people laugh, how rich would you be considered?
Krista Shipperbottom
I would like to think I’d be pretty rich but who knows if others would agree.
Reuel
In a universe where the senses of taste and hearing are mixed together, what food would you imagine your music would taste like?
Krista Shipperbottom
Ouuuu! Okay! I feel like maybe my music taste would be a soup or a salad with many ingredients because I listen to a wide variety of musical genres and I bounce from one thing to the other very quickly.
Reuel
In a universe where a sitcom-style theme song plays whenever you wake up announcing the start of your day, what would your song be?
Krista Shipperbottom
The first few falsetto screams in the beginning of our song “Wings of Agony”.
Reuel
In a universe that is a post-apocalyptic world flooded by zombies, would you be hiding in a safe house, on the run fighting zombies, or a zombie?
Krista Shipperbottom
I’d probably be asleep somewhere because I love sleeping or already a zombie because one of them would have attacked me in my sleep.
Reuel
In a universe where you were chosen to rule a nation, what is the first law you’d change or make?
Krista Shipperbottom
Too many things to choose from and that’s a lot of power.
Reuel
In a universe where you can only communicate through emojis, how would you describe Lutharo’s music?
Krista Shipperbottom
Reuel
Well that’s a rollercoaster! Thank you for playing, Krista! I hope you enjoyed this game. With our generation becoming more and more dependent on social media, do you think the pros of social media’s effect on the music industry outweigh the cons?
Krista Shipperbottom
That is a hard question to answer. Having social media allows us to communicate with people all over the world at any given moment which is incredible! However, it seems as though since people are getting their needs met online, fewer enjoy actually experiencing live shows anymore. Especially for how expensive everything has become.
Reuel
Brilliant. Thank you for your time, Krista. Always a pleasure chatting with you. Is there anything you’d like to add to take this interview home?
Krista Shipperbottom
