We had the pleasure to chat with Natalie Nova, solo artist and vocalist of Beyond the Roots. Natalie Nova recently released singles with both her projects. We discussed her music and many other things in this inteview.
Hello Natalie! How are you doing during these hard days?
Doing well thank you for asking, staying busy. Even in hard times we must heal and there is a lot to be grateful for.
You’re the vocalist of Beyond The Roots and you also have your solo project. How would you say these two projects differ from each other?
My solo project is multi genre while Beyond The Roots is specifically a metal band. Natalie Nova project is more melodic and progressive rock and metal primarily. However, limitless to genre for future releases.
You’ve recently dropped your solo project’s single Genesis. How are you feeling about the reception this song received so far?
I am feeling great. Love the song and it is very special to us.
We have a tradition at FemMetal to ask our interviewees some ‘nerdy’ game questions so our readers would get to know another side of them. I’ll give you a certain scenario in an alternate universe and you’d have to react to these changes.
In a universe where you’re the vocalist of a Jazz band, what would your band’s name be?
I would LOVE to be in a jazz band! I love blues and jazz and was classically trained. Would love combining opera and metal elements, but for a jazz band name I would have to go with The Daisies.
In a universe where aliens from outer space came to study music on Earth and asked for a specimen from your music, which song would you give them to listen to?
Either “Rites Of Passage” or “Aligned” by Beyond The Roots.
In a universe where the senses of taste and hearing are mixed up, what would Beyond the Roots’ music taste like?
Flowers, gritty roots and fresh fruit.
In a universe where time travel is possible, which era or time would like to visit?
80’s for sure.
In a universe where the currency is a person’s sense of humour, how rich would you be?
Creation is currency! No just kidding but yeah let’s just say I can be VERY silly. XD
Thank you for playing Natalie! Have you ever been treated in a sexist way? How would you face sexism and what advice would you give to young people who face any kind of discrimination?
Name a female who hasn’t faced this. I will wait haha just kidding. But yeah, what is in our control is our response and how we chose to react, or simply not. Do not let it affect you. Mind over matter, keep going, work harder and do not let it affect you. Let it make you work harder.
Are you planning for any future releases anytime soon that you’d like to tell us about?
Beyond The Roots is releasing our five song EP in 2021! New music coming from Natalie Nova project as well, starting with a single “Resolution” out of 12/12.
Thank you for the interview Natalie! It’s amazing to chat with you.
Thank you so much for having me and creating a platform for Women in Metal!
