It doesn’t take much to create something extraordinary, but you need at least a big dose of talent. And Hartlight, this Swiss-French symphonic band, has mesmerized me with their songs. I interviewed their lead vocalist Noémie about music, pizza and life.

Hello Noémie, how are you doing?
Hi, I would say that things are moving forward!
About a month ago, you released “From Midland and Beyond“: how did you feel when the whole world could listen to your creation?
I was proud to show something that I had done and that we had done. I never studied composition, and for me, it’s a freedom to dare to go there!
If you had to describe Hartlight to someone who has never listened to your music before, which songs or lyrics would you use?
I would retain “Be Blessed” for its catchy and effective side, where we find the codes of power metal. For the lyrics, I would take the song “Into the realm of the elves” because this theme of healing is at the heart of my will as an artist.
Excellent choice! Your tracks are perfect to be played in front of a live audience: will we be seeing you live anytime soon?
Thank you! We are moving to France soon, and it is there that we will start performing. So I think it will take two years.
Can’t wait! Who inspired you to become an artist?
I think I had a lot of pain and emotions to get out, and I needed sympathetic ears to listen. Also, I love to sing, and I love the stage. I feel like I can give others a voice, so they feel understood.
Is there an album that you consider close to perfection?
I couldn’t say, but I’ve been able to listen to Carach Angren‘s “Dance and Laugh Amongst the Rotten” over and over again without getting bored for months.
What are your favourite pizza toppings?
Non-frozen shrimp and seafood!
Yum! Not only is it hard to be a woman, but it’s even more complicated in the music industry. Do you think that women in metal are being treated differently than men? If so, what do you think the main issue is?
I was able to experience the metal scene with my other band, Phoebus the Knight, and so far, I have been treated well. I like to imagine a world of metal where every woman can bring her unique colour and behave as she wishes, without hiding her sensitivity, for example.
Let’s play a little game: if aliens landed in front of you and, in exchange for anything you desired, offered you to perform only on their planet, what would you want?
I take Adrien in the suitcase, and I want a traditional Japanese house with the landscape, an onsen, personal chefs and anime and a tropical climate! And, of course, the contract to ask for what I want as long as I am there.
Thank you very much, Noémie, for taking the time to do this interview! Would you like to add anything else to our readers?
Thanks for reading, and thanks to FemMetal for the interview! I love your funny questions! I hope you will love our music 😉
Benedetta Baldin

Hi! My name is Benedetta, I’m 29 and I live in Northern Italy. My passion has always been music: I started taking guitar lessons when I was 6. Now I work as a sales representative, but in my free time I interview talented people, I spread the word about my favorite band (MoonSun), and I go to concerts or travel around Europe. I am a huge collector of anything Tolkien-related, autographs, merchandise, and CDs. I am quite an original person and don’t mind being the voice outside of the choir (even though I play in the church’s choir!).
