Hello, L E A. I’m happy to be talking with you. How is 2023 treating you so far?
Thank you so much for having me! 2023 is picking up real quick. It felt pretty quiet at the start of January, but quickly booked up halfway through!
That’s good to hear. You are on the verge of releasing your new EP, “Happy Never Ending”. What can your fans expect to hear on this new record?
They can expect to hear 3 previously released tunes paired with a power ballad and the title track which features Kellin Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens!
Woah that’s amazing! How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard your music before?
Pop punk/alternative pop. I love thinking of my music as commercial/mainstream enough to get radio play and reach a large audience of listeners, but loud and aggressive to fit the rock n roll chick persona. It’s the new wave of punk and rock.
Brilliant. What bands and musicians did you grow up listening to that have affected your approach to creating your own music?
I grew up listening to a lot of classic rock, like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, and Air Supply, but also discovered my love for pop punk on my own by listening to artists like Mayday Parade, Every Avenue, Go Radio, Paramore, and Secondhand Serenade.
In order to get to know you better and from a different point of view, how about playing an imagination game? I will set a scenario in an alternate universe with new rules and see how you’d react to the different situations. Ready?

In a universe where you are the queen of a country, what would be the first law you’d make?
Laws… uh, honestly a rule like “everyone has to own their own emotional support animal” or something like “I will set hundreds of cats free to roam the streets, you must treat them with kindness, provide them additional food and pets, and you are welcome to take them in when needed.” (And don’t worry, they will all be taken care of regardless).
That’s a great idea! In a universe where humans can choose either to be able to teleport from one place to another or travel back and forth in time, which superpower would you pick?
Crap, that’s hard. I think it’s important to live in the moment, and teleportation would make touring SO much easier hahaha, but because I’d be so curious of what the past and future would be like, I’d probably choose that. We can keep our long road-tripping fun, but time travel as a little getaway.
In a universe where you’re the statue of liberty, what object would you be holding instead of a torch?
Either my Nintendo Switch, a medium Dunkin’ Donuts’ iced coffee, or a gin and tonic.
In a universe where money does not exist, but instead, people pay for things by making other people laugh, how rich would you be considered?
Now that’s a hit or miss. I think I’m funny and can make people laugh occasionally, but the right person has to find it funny. Middle class for sure.
In a universe where the senses of taste and hearing are mixed up together, what food would you imagine your music would taste like?
A monster energy drink 100%. That or an Adios Mother F#cker. Colorful with a whole lot of punch. I know these are drinks! I’m more passionate about beverages.
In a universe where a theme song plays whenever you wake up announcing the start of your day, what would your song be?
I’m taking this moment to share that this was my day every morning routine during the pandemic as my Animal Crossing character woke up to the chorus of my tune “Get Over Yourself” in game. If this is my universe, I will be playing my songs.
hahaha! Thank you for playing, L E A! I hope you enjoyed this! We live in an era where social media became essential for musicians to reach fans and promote their music. In your opinion, what are the cons and pros of social media having all that power in the music industry?
I’d say I love it more than I hate it. I see the pros heavily as I watch my friends and peers sign major label deals, get booked for tours, reach their first million, etc. Social media is the sole reason I played sold-out Emo Night’s in 2022. It’s the reason my producer Chase Coy found me and started working with me. It’s the reason I’ve reached tens and thousands of listeners. I’m usually advocating for the good in it, but I can see the bad too. Having to be mentally 100% every day to make content in hopes your stuff pops off is exhausting. My advice is— you don’t need it to define your success as an artist. If you can use social media as a tool (and not your whole personality, oops lol), and find balance with it, that’s enough!
That’s a brilliant take. Have you ever faced any kind of sexism in your professional or personal life? How would you deal with sexist behaviour and what advice would you give young people around the world who face any kind of discrimination?
Honestly, I’m really grateful to not have faced a lot of sexism as a woman in music. Other than the occasional discrimination interning in a recording studio early on in my career, I unfortunately did experience one main situation last year that changed how I view things. My advice is to speak up, stand your ground and stay true to yourself, and get the f out of any potentially toxic or dangerous situation. Just walk away, no matter what they promise you, it’s not worth it.
