Madame Neptune is a new band from Germany who have put together an interesting and enchanting Rock sound that they’ve already showcased with two singles so far. We had the chance to chat with the magical front-woman Liss Eulenherz, as she told us about her band’s recipe for wondrous music and shared some of her experiences and great ideas.

Hello, Liss. I’m very happy to talk with you. How are you doing today?
Hey Mirk, I am great and feel super excited about this interview. Thank you for having me!
That’s great! You are a brand new band from Germany and you have released two mesmerizing singles so far. How would you describe your musical style to our readers who haven’t listened to Madame Neptune yet?
Thank you! If you want to mix the perfect magical potion to describe Madame Neptune you should mix a big spoon of psychedelic Sounds, a scoop of modern Rock to Hard Rock elements and don’t forget about a good bottle of Blues Rock. In the end, it’s important to boil it in the cauldron with a few dark melodies and occult Rock scents. As our sound is a bit darker than the normal Psychedelic Rock you may find in your Parent´s Vinyl Collection, we think “Mystical Blues Rock” or Psychedelic Blues may fit well but we are open to experimenting within genres.
That’s an interesting description! “Spell On You” came out at the end of May. How did you feel about the reception it got from your fans and friends?
“Spell on You” is our second seance, as we like to call it. After our debut “He Rises”, the second single is way darker, deeper and slower, so we expected a bit more of confusion. As a new band, the best thing is about breaking with expectations: nobody knows who you are and you can define yourself in a new way with every release. We also try to tell a story within our videos and lyrics as well. The feedback we´ve got from our Spirits (Fans) was super kind, exciting and motivating. What we did not expect was the amount of new people joining our little cult/community as it was of course tricky to choose such a slow and moody single after a song that said: move your body. A big surprise was also how people received the single with words like “apocalyptic Blues” or even got Doom vibes within the song. Love it!
Wonderful! In order to get to know you better and have some fun, how about we play a nerdy game? I will set up some alternative universes and give you a scenario and a question about it. Are you ready?
I was born ready, as mighty Jack Burton told us.
Perfect! In a universe where you find yourself the queen of a kingdom, what would be the first legislation you’d make?
The government now should be part elected and part drawing lots from people coming from all different social classes and professions.
In a universe where you can choose a superpower to possess, would you rather have the ability to teleport from one place to another, or the ability to read minds?
As I see myself as a person who is able to read minds by reading body language, listens carefully and define myself as very empathetic I would try the teleport thing. But please tell me: is it more like the Star Trek or the Harry Potter way? Second one would make me nauseated, I think.
Definitely Star Trek 😂 The HP one is a bit unrealistic even for a fantasy movie. In a universe where you’re the statue of liberty, what object would you be holding instead of a torch?
Obviously a Crystal Ball!
How rich would you be considered in a universe where you pay for things you purchase by telling jokes?
I am funny by accident and love to speak sarcastically about myself a lot but also like to cheer people up with grotesque slapstick. I´d be super-rich, or the only one laughing at all down in the dungeons of this world.
😂😂 In a universe where the sense of taste and sense of hearing got somehow mixed up in the human body, what food would you imagine Madame Neptune’s music would taste like?
Savory Muffins. But without bell pepper. You can already smell the dessert in the kitchen, a raspberry cake with dark chocolate sprinkles.
Wow. In a universe where a zombie apocalypse happened, would you most likely be hiding in a safe house, outside fighting the zombies, or already turned into a zombie?
A question I ask myself a lot, to be honest. We all did! As I am a skilled archer, you would consider me the one fighting. I would probably end up losing an arm and a leg by helping those poor Zombies outside. But don´t you dare to touch my cats, I´ll dismember your corpse and burn your pieces. I think I’m a nice person.
Yes, very sweet indeed. Thank you for playing along, Liss! Hope you enjoyed this! What musicians would you say have influenced you most as you grew up?
Oh, that’s a hard one. From David Bowie to Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Carpenters, Etta James and countless 80s musicians even though I’m a 90skid.
Have you ever faced any kind of sexism in your professional or personal life? How would you deal with sexist behaviour and what advice would you give young people around the world who face any kind of discrimination?
I have been present on stage nearly my whole life, not only as a musician. And I am a freelance artist in a business also dominated by men. Nearly 80% of women and transwomen experienced sexism, sexual violence or other forms of sexist discrimination within their lives. I am one of them and I needed years of learning, a great feminist community and wonderful (business) women in my life to find my way to deal with the world we’re living in. I´ll give you a less painful story: A few years ago I had a gig as a session keyboardist at a festival for a well-known band. The festival was more electro music-based so the staff knew how to deal with keyboards, e-pianos and the musician´s preferences. None of the bands with male synth/keyboarders was told the thing I was told: “you can put your cable in the corner over there. Do you need a power supply for your synth to make it look like you really play?” I wasn’t sure how to react back then and just told him I wanted to line check as everyone else and played the shit out of my instrument to prove my skills. The pressure of everyone looking at me was terrible. His eyes said: unexpected wow. My mind said: wtf are women just a deco on your stage? It’s not my job to prove my skills to you. Today I would probably play with wonderful males around me who would tell this guy he should do his work and stop with his sexist behavior. Sexism will stop when other (cis-)guys are communicating about the topic with each other, listen and learn about it from people who experienced it – so others don’t have to face a situation like this or worse anymore. Sexism is harmful for everyone in this society, so let’s speak about it, learn and know your privileges.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and thank you for the interview, Liss. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
That was one of the most interesting interviews I ever had the chance to participate in. Thank you so much! The next seance is just around the corner and we would love you to visit us. You can expect a dark cineastic video and a battle about the powers of Urok and Madame Neptune. Thank you again for your time and wonderful questions, stay safe and healthy!
