Eva Under Fire is one of the most interesting bands that are in the metal scene nowadays. We had the opportunity to chat with lead singer Amanda Lyberg about music, tour and more!
Benedetta
Hello! How are you doing at the moment?
Amanda Lyberg
I’m good. Glad to be home but already missing tour life.
Benedetta
You’ve just released the new album “Villainous” – are there any songs in it that started in one way and then completely turned into something different?
Amanda Lyberg
“Survive My Scars” actually started as two separate song ideas.
Benedetta
Amanda’s background as a licensed therapist gives a unique edge to the band’s songwriting. How does your clinical understanding of human emotion and trauma influence the way you approach writing hard rock lyrics?.
Amanda Lyberg
I think who I am as a person influences the way I work in both music and psychology. A lot of it is intuitive for me.
Benedetta
How do you strike the balance between heavy, aggressive hard rock riffs and the undeniable pop-rock hooks that make your tracks so radio-friendly?
Amanda Lyberg
Carefully haha. It’s an intentional balance for sure. We usually start with the hook and make sure we love that first then the rest falls into place.
Benedetta
Do you think the artistic life is lonely?
Amanda Lyberg
I think it can be but that’s why I built my art journey differently. I get to do this with my husband and friends I’ve known half my life.
Benedetta
Looking back at the early days of Eva Under Fire, what advice would present-day you give to the version of yourself that was just starting out in the Detroit local scene?
Amanda Lyberg
The journey won’t look like you expect it to but it’s still worth it.
Benedetta
What are your favorite pizza toppings?
Amanda Lyberg
Black olive and banana pepper.
Benedetta
Do you think that we’ll ever reach some equality between men and women in the metal world?
Amanda Lyberg
Equality exists but whether it will become the standard in any career path depends on who benefits from acknowledging that fact.
Benedetta
I wanted to play a little game with you if that’s alright. If you had to pick a song from “Villainous” to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest, which one would you choose?
Amanda Lyberg
Probably “Don’t Say I’m Okay“. It’s pop and metal. Dancey and serious.
Benedetta
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview! Is there anything else you’d like to add to our readers of FemMetal?
Amanda Lyberg
Hope you love the album!
