6.5/10

Archetype X’s debut album “Regression” is a good effort from the band to showcase their talent and ability to create quality music. With this potential, we can only expect the Spanish band to keep improving in their future albums and become one of the big names in Metal.

The album starts with a short instrumental intro track with the same title. The track has a suspenseful tone and builds up perfectly for the explosion that comes next.

The second track “Hypoxia” is an explosive song that begins with stunning guitars before the band’s vocalist Lizkiller Queen intervenes with her rampant rough vocals. The same pattern of music dominates the whole album. “Mighty Karma” follows with intense riffs and a fast tempo. Lizkiller’s harsh singing is frequently interrupted throughout the album for clean singing, breaking uniformity and keeping the album exciting.

“Final Statement” follows the example of its predecessors, with a slightly more energetic riff and a beautiful beat to it. The fifth track, “Black Silence”, begins with a melodic tune, swiftly falling back to what can be described as a leading property of the album: powerful guitar riffs with a fast tempo and beautifully arranged pauses. The solo on this track, although short, is a work of beauty. This continues in “Over-Soul” where we see the band making an effort to break the monotony with some slower beaks and whispered vocals.

The final track on the album is “Dies Irae”. The album ends with a lengthy song, a bit less than seven minutes, with a clearer melody, while preserving the nature of the whole album. “Dies Irae” features a longer period of clean vocals, showing the abilities of vocalist Lizkiller Queen to excel at both styles of singing.”
